Calibre and Growl 1.3

Unfortunately when I go to convert a book in calibre using Growl 1.3 (App Store version), Calibre crashes. This is in Lion with the latest version of Calibre 0.8.2.1

A growl window open quickly giving me a chance to choose the app that is making the call to growl but Calibre crashes before I can browse to its location and add it.

Stupid new version of growl that I went a paid for.

Any tips would be much appreciated!

Did you try disabling or uninstalling Growl to verify that it is indeed responsible for the crash?

And have you tried to re-install calibre using the website.

Does that work?

But what do you mean converting a book using Growl.
Growl is used to update app's I think? (No Apple User).

Do you manage to open calibre.
Can you edit metadata
Are you able to read books?

I must admit I do not see what Growl has to do with Calibre. Why Growl should even get involved when you are trying to convert a book is not at all clear.

Growl is a global notification system. It gives nice little popup messages.

Calibre uses Qt for sending notifications, Growl receives them and displays them. There is an incompatibility between Qt and the Growl 1.3. There is nothing we can do about this but wait for either Qt to be updated to support Growl 1.3 or the Growl people to put out a new version that doesn't cause Qt apps to crash with 1.3.

For the time being go to preferences, Look and Feel, check Disable notifications.
