I think I am sick!
I edited metadata for 3000 books in bulk to remove the tag On Kindle. I checked the box on the right, and it removed everyone of my tags. Am I screwed, or is there some way I can get them back?
Is there someway to edit tags aside from metadata, except one by one? How can I get the list of Tags back? HELP!!!!! please Last edited by Sydney's Mom; 10-06-2011 at 11:07 PM. |

Did you ever do anything to save the tags into the actual book metadata? If you did there should be a way to extract the tags from the individual book metadata, though it might take some trial and error to figure out the best way to do it in bulk. The bulk modification you did would only affect the Calibre db.
If the data isn't in the books themselves I don't know if there is anything else that could be done - any recent backups? |

Unfortunately, I just combined all my libraries into one giant library, and hadn't done a back up yet (that was the last two nights).
Do you know how to get the stock tags back? I have to type in each one, rather than get the list that used to be there. i tried to repair Calibre, but it didn't give me the standard tags back. Last edited by Sydney's Mom; 10-06-2011 at 11:38 PM. |

If the tags are still in the book metadata, then one by one you could go to the edit metadata screen - the individual one, not the bulk one. You click on the book itself in the upper right hand corner, and then you click the 'i' icon. That will extract the all the metadata from the book and use it.
Problem is I don't know if there is an easy way to do this in bulk if it works. |

Guess who has all her tags back!!!! Went to my calibre library, selected the metadata file, and windows told me it had another version from 3 hours ago. EVERYTHING IS BACK!!!! I AM SO, SO HAPPY.
The box I checked was not within the box where you listed the tags to be removed. Dumb, dumb, dumb. God protects idiots and small children. I bought a bunch of books tonight, and I am off to read!!!! (while I run a back-up, of course) Last edited by Sydney's Mom; 10-07-2011 at 01:52 PM. |
