Converting Books to a Single Folder

Can someone help me with a little problem I have converting files to Mobi format. Everything goes smoothly, but I have been unable to have the output go into a single folder. Instead, every single book gets placed in its own folder. Which is fine if I am only doing a couple. But when I am converting 200 books as a time, it takes forever to move the files where I want them to be.

Is there a way to set the output to put all files in a single folder where I can seperate and move them in bulk?

Thanks

-Ed

Send to Disk. Only allow Mobi (preferences). This will auto-convert if Mobi does not exist.

Why are you managing files?
Calibre is quite capable of sending the preferred format (as set in the output device plugin for that model) to any recognized device.
Connect a Kindle: Mobi
Connect a EZReader Pocket Pro: EPUB

I don't send the files directly to my Kindle due to space issues. I have found that when I have too many files on my device it is difficult to find the book I am looking for. Instead I put them on my external HD and only keep 200 or so books on the Kindle at a time.

I took a look at Preferences and could not find that option. I checked every option as well as checked the plugins.

This seems to be a very backwards way of doing things. Calibre is great for managing all of your books and allows you to only send the books you want on your Kindle when you want to send them. How many books you want on your kindle is irrelevant.

I have Mobi set as my preferred output under Preferences - Behavior so when I click the down arrow next to the Save to Disk icon I get as set of options, see attached.

dwanthny, Thank you for the information. I am trying it out now. It looks like I have been skipping a step and have been instead moving things manually.

Under Preferences - Saving books to disk there is a Save template that is used to format the folder/filename during the Save to Disk operation.

Also under Preferences - Saving books to disk you might want to uncheck the Save cover separately and the Save metadata in OPF file otherwise you will get a jpg and opf file for each mobi book.

dwanthny,

Thank you, that worked perfectly. I had been converting files and then doing everything manually. Thank you very much for your help!

One other question.

I am trying to get my files in the format

Author - Series - Title

I have messed with the default a bit which is this:

{author_sort}/{title}/{title} - {authors}

But everything just comes back with the title and no author.

That is a bit redundant (but valid)

IMHO the only reason for a Title folder is you want multiple formats and/or extra cover (not the one inside the book)
{author_sort}/{title} - {authors}

Your template above creates a file title - author.mobi inside a directory of the title inside the directory of author_sort. Could you just be seeing the first subdirectory which is the Title and not actually opening that directory to see the filename?

I would use the following if I wanted series-title-author with series being an optional field that only fills in when there is an actual series.
Code:
{author_sort}/{series:||-}{series_index:05.2f||-}{title}-{author}
Also make sure your in the Saving books to Disk area there are multiple areas that have save templates depending on what you are doing.

Good Luck

I tried that and it gave me the author at the end. Is there a way to get the author in the front?

That worked perfectly. You have earned my respect and admiration.

If you ever need any help with any of the topics I excel in please let me know.

I teach practical combat, (knives, guns, unarmed combat), and memorize comic trivia, which I figure will help me if I am ever kidnapped by OCD comic book reading aliens. (I'm also a network engineer, but that specialty comes up less in real life than you might think.)

Thanks again!
