further proxy server problems

Hello

I am one of those having continuing problems with proxy server authentication. The environment is a Windows 7 PC behind Small Business Server 2003/ISA Server 2000. I am using Calibre 0.8.11

Despite having set Calibre to pass through ISA server (enabled for both domain & client, AND enabled locally on the PC) - which generally gets programs through - I still can't retrieve the metadata for books. Not surprisingly I get HTTP error 407: Proxy authentication required.

I have set the http_proxy environment variable and have tried changing it to use either just http://<proxy server>:<port>, or http://<user name>:<password>@<proxy server>:<port>, and even http://<domain>\<user>:<password>@<proxy server>:<port>. I still get the same error. HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Internet Settings/ProxyEnable is set to 1, and ProxyServer is set as expected.

Does anyone have any further suggestions, please? I see other people have managed to interact from behind ISA Server.

many thanks

I can connect through our company's ISA server up until Calibre 0.8.12. After that, it's broken. But that proxy doesn't require authentication. The only thing I did was making sure my IE can connect to the internet.

Hi Sweetpea

Thanks so much for replying. I would have thought (as logged in already) that I didn't necessarily need to authenticate. It's quite odd as most apps which need to update/download or upload will pass through ISA server if a rule is set up for them, without authenticating with user name etc, and with the rule set up they can automatically open the necessary port. It doesn't work with Calibre - and have tried several other ways round it since I created that thread, including setting Calibre up for direct access. The only other app that I have never been able to get to work is (oddly enough) the Kindle4PC app, and you can enter under name & password, as well as proxy server & port, in that.

In the end I gave up and connected my laptop direct to the router, so I have been able to download the metadata. It wasn't something I particularly wanted to do but I was wasting so much time and getting so frustrated! having converted all my non-Amazon stuff, all I need to do now is find some way of automating the tedious task of adding the revised books back in to my collections!
