Download old purchases / lrf vs. epub

Hi everyone.

I own a PRS-500 for now about 5 years and will replace it with a new Kindle (non-touch) soon.

I wondered how I can redownload all the content I bought from Sony a few years ago. I haven't used the Reader much and didn't even connect it to a pc in the last 2 years or so.

I tried to download the 'Reader Software' but there's no possibility to 'log in' into my account.
Even on the website http://ebookstore.sony.com/ I cannot find any log-in possibility.

Does anyone know how to do that?

2nd question: The PRS-500 initially used .lrf. In some firmware update that fileformat was dropped and replaced by .epub.
So I should be able to get my bought .lrf content in .epub format?

I'd really appreciate any help

BR

I may have to add that 5 years ago there was no Reader in Germany - that's where I live - so I bought the Reader and all the content in the us (online) store.

You can't, you have to use the software. And if the software is set up for a Germany-based account, you may not be able to get in to your old US account with it...

Also, be aware that the Sony books will have DRM and that needs to be removed before you can put them on a Kindle. No one here can post how to do that though, since evil people would use that information to pirate ebooks and MR can get in trouble for having that info here for the world to see. Google knows how to do it though.

I am at work, but there is a Log In button on the reader software.

Or use the button to go to My Account, which will require you to log in.

I chattet with the Sony Online Support last night (well at least it was night in Germany ).
The solution was so simple I wonder why I didn't see it.

In the reader software go to the preferences dialog and select "USA" in the 'territory/region' setting

This way the software does not redirect to Germany ebook stores like thalia.de and I can log in using my existing sony account.

When I re-downloaded my previous purchases I got them in .epub already - but of course with the included DRM. Converting to a Kindle-compatible .mobi using Calibre and a plugin worked fine.

You may be getting the names a little confused. Sony's BBEB book format used two different file extensions:

LRF for DRM-free files. These were never sold by Sony, but were available elsewhere.

LRX for DRM-protected books. These were only ever sold by Sony's eBook store.

If you bought LRX books from Sony's eBooks store, you should be able to re-download them in ePub format.

If you have books in LRF format you can convert them to ePub using "Calibre".
