				Now there's Kindle insurance

I haven't seen anyone mention that Amazon (US) are now offering 2-Year Warranty and Accident Protection on Kindles, at prices from $25 to $45 for every Kindle model, new and old. In the UK, the insurance for the new low-end Kindle also includes theft coverage, and is available for £22. For Keyboard Kindles, 3-year insurance (without theft coverage) is available, for £25/£30. I suspect this means that in future it will not be quite so easy to get a replacement Kindle if your screen breaks if you don't have this insurance. Unless I was oblivious to this, and Amazon have always offered various insurance schemes for Kindles? |

I had an extended warranty for my K2 from Amazon when I got it in Jan 2010.

Oh, thanks for that. It seems I was just unobservant previously then!

Theft insurance is interesting but my devices really aren't at high risk of theft. They all look to be around a 25% premium on the cost of the unit. I haven't looked at where Square Trade will price them but I generally don't insure $100 electronics. I just take my chances and replace as necessary. I really hadn't thought about it for the Fires I have on order for the kids. I think I'll probably just tell them that they aren't insured and they'd better be careful with them. |

Just a pedantic (but important point), Amazon doesn't offer insurance for any Kindle model (and never has). Insurance is very heavily regulated around the world. Claiming to offer insurance when you don't is a very serious crime. The products that Amazon offers are warranties. You'll note that there isn't a single mention of Insurance on the warranty pages on Amazon.com |

For me the devices are becoming inexpensive enough that I will just buy a new one if/when the old one breaks. Although the build quality of the Kindles I've owned has been very high; my original one is still working, last I heard, though it's been passed on through several owners now. Now, my Xbox 360, on the other hand... |
