Help with Adobe Digital Editions
I just did a factory reset to fix the "Network Error" problem on my Kobo Touch, and now it will not allow me to authorize it with Adobe Digital Editions, because it says "too many authorizations." This is the same Kobo Touch that was already authorized, so I'm a bit confused.
Here are all the devices that are authorized for my account: - my computer, obviously - my Kobo Touch - my iPod touch - my old Kobo Wifi, which I gave to my mom. We share the same library card and thus the same ADE account. Is 5 the limit? Does it see my Kobo Touch as being two separate devices since I had to do a factory reset? Is there any way to deauthorize devices like on iTunes or what? I cannot find anything in the help sections. Thanks. |

Five is the limit.
The authorization is stored on the device as well as with ADE - so if the device doesn't have the information (ie, after a factory reset), it's considered a new device. You'll have to contact Adobe directly. (I'm too lazy to look up where to contact, though a forum search should help you) |

I thought the limit was 6 computers and 6 devices.
But either way, an e-mail to Adobe should sort it out for you. http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/ |

Hoo boy. I'm chatting with an Adobe customer support rep right now. Her solution is to tell me to visit the Adobe forums and ask for help, since the customer support reps are not trained on ADE. I looked in the forum and it said someone at Adobe has to reset the activation limit for me. This is so frustrating.

Apparently I have to put in a support ticket and it will take 2-3 business days for them to get back to me.
To authorize my Kobo. So I can read an effing library book. Sigh. |

The customer support rep is trying to walk me through putting in a support ticket. Neither one us can figure it out.

However, I will give the support rep credit for this:

And that's that. Neither one of us had any idea how to open a support ticket with Adobe, and the rep told me to call on Monday, and maybe someone would be there who would know what to do.

No doubt this will get resolved, though the wait is annoying.
However, this object lesson can not be repeated enough.. there just can't be too much awareness of the issue. http://xkcd.com/488/ |

If the publishing big boys want to follow in the stumbling, bumbling footsteps of the RIAA and MPAA before them, then I must conclude that they expect the inevitable result: the Napsterization of ebooks. People want to do the right thing (well, maybe most do). If the legal way is also the most painful way, people will find the path of least resistance. Once they get trained that way, they won't bother with the legal way again. I honestly believe that's what happened with music. Instead of embracing digital distribution, big content tried to fight it for so long that people just went "meh' and pirated whatever they wanted since they couldn't get what they wanted legally for a fair price. A decade later, big content finally starts to get it right but it's too late to significantly affect the mindset of the people. |

Hooray! Finally today someone at Adobe was able to reset my activation limit and allow me to authorize my Kobo.
