Saving metadata to formats
I add some e-books to library and edit their metadata, e.g title and author. Then i send them to device. When i read them, device shows me old, unchanged metadata. Is there a way to save metadata in e-book files?

I believe you need to convert format to format (ie. Epub to epub) to save the changes.

How do you transfer them to the Device? Do you use the Calibre Send to Device option or something else? Also, what format are the books?

Imput the new meta-data. Convert the file from the file format to the same file format (epub > epub or mobi > mobi). The conversion should save the changes. Then use calibre to transfer to device.

Yes, i use Calibre 'Send to device' function. I tried both 'Only on send' and 'Automatic' setting in device sending preferences.
I have books in fb2 format. |

Currently I believe the Sony devices are the only devices where the driver will update the metadata automatically. After updating the metadata have you tried deleting the book from the device and resending the book?

If you are using FB2 as the format then you may need to do a conversion (even FB2->FB2) to get updated metadata embedded in the file. Calibre updates metadata duing the Send to Device command for most formats, but it sounds as if FB2 may not be one of them.

IIRC calibre does not have code to set metadata in fb2 files.

Yeah, converting format helps, thanks.
Btw, how can i tell Calibre not to transliterate e.g. russian symbols when saving files to device? |

You cannot. Using non ascii characters in filenames on device filesystem is highly fragile. If you must do it, use save to disk and set the correct preference in Preferences->Saving to disk

That's seems to be a bad feature. My device can understand non-ascii symbols and i'd like calibre to use them.

![]() Calibre is cross platform / Cross devices. It needs and will support the Majority, not a unique minority of devices and OS. ASCII is understood by most file systems all the way back to MSDOS or CPM days. |

All true, Ducks, but it's tough for those for whom English is not their native language. How would you like to have to use Cyrillic for all your filenames?

But then I would not use a program that was Based upon that character set and complain that it did not do ASCII because my reader happens to supports ASCII (I just happen to use LBOOK firmware which supports both, and change the defaults to English ![]() |
