Kindle doesn't do epub, and especially not Kobo's custom epub format. You'll need to get Calibre, find out how to set it up to remove DRM (no, I'm not telling you) and either use Calibre to convert the non-DRM'd epubs to Mobipocket or use Amazon's KindleGen will convert them to .azw.

Sucks that you can't transfer the books you've purchased from one reader to another. Without stripping the DRM, anyway.
What if you had to buy brand-specific CDs or DVDs? People would be up in arms! |

Yeah they would!
And I love the avatar by the way! Haven't thought of Tom Servo and the gang in a while! |

The good news is that this is not particularly difficult, just tedious. Which is why many of us do the DRM removal as a normal part of our new book workflow. It's easier to deal with in one's and two's than to do the 700+ books I have all at once. |

And not to forget ... those Kobo books will open on many recent mobile devices -- tablets, smartphones, laptops, Macs, PCs, Androids -- it's only the Kindle that will refuse to deal with them.
(Similarly, those Kindle books you are about to acquire will open on many devices ... just not a Nook or Kobo eink.) |
