MyMediaMall Overdrive - Signs of Kindle Checkout almost here?

I noticed this morning that several of the newer books have many formats available but says the library only owns one copy. Some have ePub/PDF/Mobi listed and some only ePub/PDF.

I checked one out to test.

Before I checked the book out, all 3 formats were available. After I checked the book out (I check-out the ePub version), all 3 of the formats when to hold status - screen shots of before and after.

Very interesting. My library site is now showing many titles with a choice of ePub or PDF where before there was only the ePub choice. Out of curiosity I checked out the PDF version of a book I know for a fact was only available previously with 2 copies in ePub. I got the PDF version. No mobi spotted yet. Curious to see how OverDrive rolls this out.

One of my library systems added quite a few new titles over the weekend...all in ePub (yay).

But...another added quite a few in the 3 formats (shown by the OP) and it does look as if when one format is checked out the remaining two go to 'hold' status as well.

Oof.

This is what is supposed to happen. If a library buys one copy it can be checked out in any available format, but only one checkout at a time. If they buy N copies than N can be checked out at once in any mix of formats.

For the Toronto Public Library -- Canadian, so it won't be getting Kindle support -- the new display is similar to the thumbnail in the OP (different graphics, same content).

The link shown "e-Book compatible computers & devices" goes here: http://www.overdrive.com/resources/d...spx?type=ebook

Lot's of interesting devices shown (yeah! Kobo!) but no sign of Kindle nor an option for mobi content (although mobi pocketbook shows on the library link on quite old titles).

I do notice that as of right now the Mobi formats still only say readable on a PC. When I look at the section to input PID numbers nothing appears to be changed. I don't even know the PID of my newest Kindle 3. I wonder if we'll be putting in serial numbers somewhere like with the certain "tools."

Nope, still can't find mention of a Kindle anywhere on the site but it looks like we're getting there.

The change applies to audiobooks as well, it appears.

In the past, if both mp3 and WMA were offered, it was not unusual to see one with a 'hold' status and the second with 'add to cart' status. Now, both formats go to 'hold' status upon one checkout of either format.

I saw this new listing on the BC Libraries site as well, with new books having all three formats. So maybe we will be getting Kindle support? All it would take would be support for our Kindle serial numbers instead of the current PID. And since one suspects that will be the same method used for US library books, we might get lucky. Ah, well, I can still convert ePub so it isn't a big deal.
