I could really cry about now. I recently updated Kindle 4 PC to 1.6.0 for the collections. I spent 3 days making them and got everything sorted nicely. Tonight I ran my cleaning programs and when I went to download my latest purchase...It had de-registered!
![]() ![]() This means my 700+ books now wont open. I've lost my collections and ![]() I then ran each cleaner program till it happened again. Then went into my manage Kindle page and remove the extras devices and now have no Kindle books on my PC ![]() I want to save others the heartache I just went through. If you use Kindle For PC 1.6.0+ do not run ATF-Cleaner It will de-registered Kindle For PC by removing something needed. ATF-Cleaner is a very small free cleaner program I've used for years. I've never had a problem before I upgraded. Needless to say I've removed it. It's a good thing it's not a real popular program like CCleaner which I also use but man this sucks! ![]() |

Purely as a matter of interest, why do you use cleaner programs? (I assume you're talking about Registry cleaners?) I've never felt the need for them.
On a more practical note, wouldn't uninstalling Kindle for PC, reinstalling, and re-registering to the same account have allowed you to read your books again? I've done that myself and it worked fine for me. |

Uninstalling and reinstalling doesn't seem to work. Amazon just sees it as a secondary device being added once you add your amazon account to log in. ![]() ![]() |

Its because Microsoft changed the way things worked on Windows 7 (& Vista?), ATF-Cleaner has not been updated for Vista/Windows 7

That's not it. The version I have is Vista compatible. I have use it for over a year with Kindle 4 PC with no problems it's only after I upgraded to 1.6.0 that it now deletes something the program needs to stay registered. So Amazon has changed something in the update that should have people be cautious when using such type programs with it.
