Books for closure on mental illness and suicide

About 4 years ago I read a book titled It's kind of a funny story, which has now been made into a movie. For those of you that don't know it, it was about a teen who was having suicidal thoughts and checked himself into the hospital. The book followed his struggles and the road to his success, etc.

I'm looking for a book with similar aspects.

That book hit close to home to me, because my brother was bipolar, schizophrenic, and everything in between. He recently committed suicide. We had his funeral but it really didn't give me much closure, and its been almost 2 months. I was hoping I could maybe find a book focused around these kind of areas, similar to it's kind of a funny story, just because its sad that it hits close to home, but it's really uplifting to have the endings and see everything is okay.

If anyone has any insight I would greatly appreciate it.

You might check out Amazon's reviews for Jay Asher's novel Thirteen Reasons Why and see if it might appeal to you. I read it a few months back and it was an engaging read, ending on a hopeful note.

Best wishes and welcome to MobileRead.

Sorry if this isn't really appropriate, but William Styron wrote this book on the crushing burden of depression a while ago:

The thing to be said for Styron is that he was a skilled writer describing the overwhelming despair of his version of mental illness.

My condolences on your loss diesel94. I lost a cousin some yrs back to suicide. In his case he'd been in the Gulf War conflict back in the 90's and from what others in the family have said it changed him. Loss is never easy.
I did find the following books through Amazon. Perhaps you may find one or more of them helpful.

Diesel94 ----- so sorry for your loss. the national alliance for the mentally ill has resources for family and friends of mentally ill, and might offer a reading room or counselors who can point you in a good direction. there are local branches, possibly with own websites, as well as the main national organization/ website.

My condolences too. Losing a loved one especially when you can't explain to yourself why is intolerable.
