Viewing .CBR files in Caliber

Hi,
I have Calibre 0.8.14 and when I click on view a .CBR file (a comic book).
It pops up a message saying "Adding...." and after couple of seconds shows below message
"?? Books ith the same title as the following already exist in the database. Add them anyway? "This does not happen with .pdf and .ePub files.

This is happening in Macbook pro. I have the same version of Calibre in Ubuntu 10.1 and it does not happen there. All I did on my backbook was to import all 357 files of .CBR at once and after that this problem began
I would appreciate your help
Regards
Aku

That would imply that a book with matching author/title is already present in the library. I would think that this is due to the way you're reading metadata- probably your CBR files all have the same metadata? If so, try another method of reading metadata on import.

No, my files do not have same meta data. I tried different files with .CBR extension and all behave the same way. I could not see all the files that I could see before. This is a wired behavior

Are you trying to view a .CBR that is already in Calibre, or are you trying to view a .CBR file that is not yet in Calibre? If you are trying to view a file that is already in Calibre, how is your viewing option set? IOW, does the Calibre viewer handle it or does an external viewer handle it. If an external viewer handles it, what viewer is set as your default viewer?

(Or are you trying to "add" a file, not "view" it?)

I am trying to view .CBR files that were already imported and edited the metadata. thats when I am getting this message. I even tried to reinstall calibre but that did not do anything. I select the file in the Calibre and click on the view button thats when I am getting the error message described in the original message. I even tried right clicking and select view from the drop down but it does give me the same error message.

You select a file in Calibre and tap V (for View) and you get that message?
Or are you back-dooring Calibre by going directly into the Library folder and trying to open the file there?

Yes when I select a file in Calibre and tap V (for View) and you get that message?
or when I right click on the book and say view
or when I click on the view tab on the menu bar on the top

Did you maybe associate Calibre to add books to the library on double clicking a CBR file? If you have CBR selected to open in an external viewer, then the above would happen.

I was thinking the same

Preferences: Behavior
there should be ticks in the second column for those formats
