Smarter sleep mode

One of the biggest problems that I have with my EE is that I usually forget to turn it off, and don't remember to open it again or plug it in until after the battery has died. So most of the time if I want to use it, I have to charge it first.

Here's what I'd like to see in a smarter sleep mode: go to sleep when the cover closes, but after some (user-configurable) wait time, wake up again and actually power down completely.

Does anyone know if there is an Android app that already does this, or if this is even feasible from an Android app?

Thanks!

I'm not 100% on this so don't lose hope but if I'm correct the EE goes kind of "inactive" once it's on hibernate, as in it won't run any scripts/programs. If this is the case then the best bet would be doing some low-level programming to work around that, but I don't know how comfortable anyone here is with doing that, or if it's even feasible. I'll wait for someone more familiar with this to chime in

Another thing that would be very helpful - a way of just blanking the LCD screen after a time and re-animating it to what was there without having to go through the unlock procedure.

I looked into the Android API a little, and found AlarmManager, which is capable of waking the CPU from sleep at a particular time to perform some action. What I haven't found is a hook to have something run just before it goes to sleep, but I'm guessing there's some way to register for power management events.

nprnncbl, I will be very interested in whatever solution you discover. My EE goes through power much faster than my PE does, even though it seems to be hibernating properly. I haven't tried any battery saver apps. Usually I remember to plug in the charger in time, but I wish it either lasted longer or had a way to power itself off as you suggest.

Thanks everyone!

This has probably been covered in an earlier thread, but I'll ask anyway. Does the EE have phone apps that can be disabled?

nprnncbl - That is interesting, I'll look into it and see if I can find anything useful.

Syclone - Here is the thread you are looking for, basically just root with Z4Root, download the new version of ES File Explorer from the official website and install, once in ES explorer go to menu>settings>Enable root access (or whatever it says along those lines) and then find the telephony.apk and phone.apk in the system folder, rename them to something else (telephonyOLD.apk or something).
