my prs-650 drives me crazy

Hello

I bought my sony last year and I could not be happier for the first 4 months.
Than the problems started. Unexplained battery drain (6-12hours), software glitches (could not put the reader in the sleep mode, instead kept opening random books, changing wallpapers, displaying message: do you want to completely power off (shutdown device) etc.). I updated software, it helped but only for a while, I did numerous soft and hard resets. I sent the reader to Sony Service, they sent it back saying that it could not find any faults. I removed all memory cards, while charging I reject the device first before disconnecting.
Now after another hard reset I cannot switch it on, after soft reset it cannot go in sleep mode, again displays message about powering off. I think I have lost my patience.

Now I am at the point either of sending the reader back to Sony Service (but I am worried they will ignore the problem again) or just selling it on Ebay. The second option is very compelling but I would not feel well selling device not functioning properly.

Is there any hope to rekindle my love with sony ?

Any advice and ideas welcomed

Ferret out the name of the CEO and contact him - often works.

It sounds like you have a rogue - or a Friday afternoon/Monday morning model.

Yes, I know, it's not supposed to happen, but..............

I got my sony back a week ago, battery and mainboard had been found faulty and therefore replaced, everything seems to working OK. I never heard back from Mike but I am assuming that the device has been repaired thanks to his help. Thanks.

Yikes.. the same sort of thing just started happening to my 650.. I've had it since last November and it was working great until a few days ago. Suddenly it randomly asks me if "I'm sure I want to turn the device completely off" while I'm reading a book and randomly flickers between sleep mode and being awake. Annoyingly, two out of the last three days it must have woken itself up from sleep mode while I was at work because I've come home to a dead battery..

Sucks to hear that Sony's repair service is so lame.. now I'm dreading dealing with this. I've had two other companies send me back my defective product unrepaired with a claim that it was "fine" (ASUS and Fujifilm) when it obviously wasn't working in any real life situation, and there's nothing more aggravating... All that means is not only do they have an awful repair service but they must also have an awful QA/test process. no wonder it has problems in the first place..

I'm having the same problems as Bernardpar...I purchased my prs-650 in March of this year. I love my reader and don't really want to replace it with something else so I've just sent an email to Sony. Hope to hear back from them soon. Boy, am I glad that I saved my previous prs-300 as a backup!
