What's the point of the Kindle's screensaver if it DIDN'T change for over 24 hours?
What's the point of the Kindle's screensaver if it DIDN'T change for over 24 hours?
NO, I did not stare at my Kindle for 24 hours just to see if the screensaver changed. ![]() I just left it on the desk with my webcam pointed at it. The webcam has a function that takes time-lapse video. (1 frame every second) I started it yesterday around noon. I just watched the video in fast-forward mode and the video and the Kindle'sscreen showed the exact same screensaver for more than 24 hours.... ![]() Thanks! ![]() |

The screensaver is not needed to "save" the screen. It is used on EInk readers as an indication that the device is in a low power sleep mode. So what you saw is normal.
The screen draws no power, except when it changes. This can be disconcerting. I know I was confused the first time one of my ebook readers ran out of power, since the screen was still displaying an image. |

It doesn't change until you turn it back on (wake it from sleep) and then set it aside to sleep again.

![]() Next time just ask first. Fast-forwarding through 24 hours of video of the same still picture sounds soooo tedious. ![]() |

It's not really a screensaver literally, like the old ones meant to prevent burn in.
It's really more of a power saver - the kindle goes to sleep. That screen is just a way of letting people know it's asleep, so they don't call up Amazon and complain about it not flipping pages anymore (if they just froze it where you stopped reading) |

This is my first post, but here's a fact, the e-ink particles are a janus particle composed of negatively charged black plastic on one side and positively charged white plastic on the other (each bead is thus a dipole) kept between two plates as a matrix, applied voltage aligns the black side or the white side.
The point is there is no screen burn in so its a "screensaver" in name only; as the e-ink is really an electrophoretic display: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electronic_paper |

This is an old debate, some conspiracy theorists think amazon added it purely to get people talking online about kindle

But I agree that Amazon should allow us to put our own pictures on the Kindle, but it's in keeping with the "controlling the user-experience" idea. Steve Jobs must be proud. |

Hmmm... a month-old user with only ~60 posts and 50000+ in karma?
and still doesn't know e-ink's ropes? |
