Kobo App + Notification Bar

I've been trying to use the Kobo app on my phone lately because I like the app in a lot of respects, but it drives me nuts that I lose the notification bar in-app.

In the Moon+ app, if you tap on the screen, the book stats + phone notification bar come up and I like that. With Kobo, tapping the screen just gives you the book stats/navigation. No notification bar.

Is there a setting I'm missing to get my notification bar back or is this something the Kobo team has addressed already as a future To Do?
