[STUDY] Consumers want afforable Amazon tablets.
While the study concludes the obvious, price matters. Some of the data they list is very interesting. In particular the amount of interest consumers have in an Amazon Android tablet.
What is interesting to me is how some companies can create such a buzz on a product that has not even seen the light or even been announced for that matter. We know who those companies are. Quote:

It's interesting to see the data broken up like that, and I will be very curious to see what amazon might bring, and at what cost.
And of course the devil is in the details - there are many possible definitions of "similar features". |

So when asked if they would buy a product that cost less than $250, but had the same features as one that cost $500, most of them would?
In other news, the sky is blue. I'd take those figures as encouraging for Apple. More than half of prospective tablet buyers would be prepared to spend $200 more on an iPad than an equivalent Android tablet, and 69% would be prepared to spend an extra $100? That is brand value you can take to the bank. Quote:

79% of people would pay $250 for a product that does the same as a $500 product. Gosh - who would have thought it?

I'd pay $250 for a Nook Color locked into Amazon's ecosystem and wouldn't even jailbreak it. The max I'd ever pay for any tablet is $300.

The survey was only of those who are interested in purchasing a tablet. What %age do you are think are going to buy non-Apple, non-Android tablets?

I think the word "study" is being somewhat abused here! The amazing thing is the 21% of people (excluding those not interested in a tablet right now) who wouldn't want an Amazon tablet comparable with the iPad for half the price. That's an expensive logo!
On a separate note, as an iPad owner who reads his books on a Kindle, I really hope Amazon are going to continue with an eInk product. Cheap and easy on the eye, I am very fond of mine, and I am the biggest Apple fan I know! |

You also failed to mention RIM, WebOS, Windows 7, and the various flavors of Linux. I had a Nokea N800 running Maemo (based on the Debian Linux distribution) years before the iPad was a gleam in Steve's eye. Last edited by wodin; 07-29-2011 at 01:30 PM. |

I have no idea what they are going to do, but I'm looking forward to seeing their vision. With the kindle Amazon decided that the important thing was acquiring books. This led them to add in a keyboard and Internet when it was slicker to leave the keyboard out and cut costs by removing cell service.
I'm not arguing that there keyboard is good or bad. My point is that Amazon doesn't try to copy everyone else. They will put out the device that promotes their needs. They are signing a lot of video deals these days and already include free downloads with amazon prime. Then there is their cloud music product. I expect this to be a media consumption device with music, video, books and apps. Possibly bundled with Prime membership and with cellular data access??? possibly linked to an Amazon credit card for easy purchases. They will add in the features they think that vision requires. Again, I'm not saying those decisions will be good or bad, just that it will not necessarily be the same as everyone else's tablet. I for one hope it comes with the new android OS (ice-cream sandwich?) |

As I said, I had omitted the possibility of 'none at all at that price' as a choice.
