Kobo Touch availability in the United States

Any idea when other retailers will have Kobo Touch stock? With Borders liquidating all stores beginning this week, where would one be able to find a Kobo Touch now? Best Buy has listed the device as "Coming Soon" for the longest.

Liquidating? Really?

EDIT: Looks like it is reality, still looking for confirmation that the liquidation starts this week though.

I guess it's gonna hurt Kobo over the next few weeks until Best Buy can get stock. Although I'd wager that Borders might be able to get stock liquidated using sale pricing easily enough.

You might want to reconsider ordering from Borders, per today's news - "Borders Liquidates" http://money.cnn.com/2011/07/18/news...tion/index.htm

Best Buy will have them shortly. Wifi editions are sold at Walmart in the US; perhaps a distribution deal will be worked out for the Touch as well.

I believe Best Buy US at one point had a July 31 launch date for the device.

Darn glad I returned mine to Borders late last week in an act of caution! I know Kobo will have to honor the Borders sells and accept exchanges and returns, but I suspect it will not be a pleasant experience for those going through that process.

Last time I went to Best Buy they had gotten rid of most of the ereaders and their display area had once again been shrunken to about half of what it was previous. I wouldn't count on much from BB.

The saddest part is that over 11,000 Borders employees are out of work soon.

The last time Borders closed stores I was surprised to find out they were discounting their Kobo e-readers as well. At the store I was at they were discounting the $99 model (pre Touch) 30%.

So, if your local store happens to have a Touch in stock you may find an opportunity in this misery.

I will miss Borders so much. The bulk of my reading is still done "on paper." And there's nothing like browsing a real brick and mortar store. I have spent MANY a dollar there!

Sorry, but Barnes & Noble doesn't even come close for me. But for now, they will have to be my brick and mortar, as indie stores are lacking in my area.

BUT - back on topic: I just called my favorite Borders and will be picking up another Touch this afternoon. I think that's the way to go: call around, see who has them in stock, and go that route.

Unless you can wait, in which case, Best Buy.

I wonder if we in the States could order from Chapters Indigo? (More $, but hey...)

That's strange, because my local Best Buy actually opened up a bigger, dedicated area for eReaders that was much better than the jumble of displays they had before. They did move it from its previous area amongst the gadgets to a spot in the store between the Apple section and the rest of the laptops and desktops, with a display area nearby for their tablets as well.

That's where the Sony display used to be in one of the BB's I've seen. Then as the Kindles/etc came in they moved it a bit so they were in one spot (but messy). Seems like different stores/regions have different ideas about what spot in the store they belong in now.

Personally, I like the idea of having them near the tablets, since that's really what they are and compete against. Just with a more specialized purpose.

I'm just waiting to swoop in and claim my pricematch on Fri/Sat...

I wonder who'll get the 10% of Kobo that Border's own...

In my BB they are still located near the front door, which is good. However, several weeks ago they had Kindles, Nooks, Sonys, and a bunch of cheap color Android tablets which I refuse to call ereaders. Kindles were the only eInks that were available in large numbers. They also had a few accessories for most. Last week they had moved and reduced the display area to a fraction of its previous size and they only had Kindles as far as eInk readers go.
