Sony Library Software to send ebooks?

I feel like I read this in the forum a while ago, but I can't find it anywhere. If I upload a BBeb or ePub book from my computer to my sony reader via the Sony Reader Library software, does it preprocess the ebook for my Reader (so it loads faster)? Is there a reason why I should use it instead of calibre? Thanks.

No reason at all.

I only use the Sony software to buy books. Then I import them in to Calibre and edit the metadata and load them to my 650 using Calibre.

I never use the Sony software at all; the only time I used it in the last several months was to add a wallpaper .jpg. I use Calibre for all of my ebook readers.

I use Sony Reader Library regularly for adding books. I also use Calibre.

I have no preference.

Please ?

Bear in mind it's Mr. tech-dunce here please.....

I really like Calibre, which I am fairly confident about using for... certain conversion and transferring tasks with my Sony, so, I'd like to know.....

1) How do I load a newly purchased/obtained free book onto my PRS with Calibre, without using the Sony s/ware please . Can it do it "automatically" like the Sony does, by perhaps indicating "Other" on default loader ?

2) And if I do d'load into Sony Library, how do I get it into Calibre to put it onto device ?

3) Or do I just get it into my "Downloads" panel and do something clever from there ?

Step by step would be incredibly helpful...........

I thought that the Sony Reader Library did "process" BBeb books before transferring them to the reader (you may have to actually open the book first). At some point, the pre-processing stopped working (for me), but I assumed it was something unique to my computer/505.

You Add the book to Calibre, but using the Add Books button.

Edit the metadata if desired, then with the reader attached, you Select the books you want sent to thre reader and use the Send to Device icon.
