Unable to convert Mobi to Epub

I bought a book on Amazon and was unable to convert it to Epub for the first time. It has nothing to do with DRM, as I have the plugin installed which removes this (DRM). The error has nothing to do with DRM.

It's a VERY large file, found here:

Could it be that the file is simply too large? If so, are there any other options for converting to epub, other than Calibre? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is the original file infested with DRM? We can't tell if the error has to do with DRM because as far as I can tell you have yet to share the error with us. So my next question is exactly what error are you getting that leads you to believe the conversion isn't happening.

No, it is not too large. It may however be too big for your system to handle.

Looks like you probably ran out of memory - the mobi code was malformed, and Calibre's attempt to fix it had a memory related issue.

You can get the raw mobiml and manually massage that into usable html by using the debug output feature, but Dwanthny's advice to use alternative free sources is probably the best use of your time.

Since it talks about Malformed markup it could be drm related. The most recent update to the K4MobiDeDRM calibre plugin was in June. If it has been a while since you installed the plugin you might want to check for updates.

Updated to the latest version and still nothing. Not sure if the error is the same. Here it is, cut and pasted. Given this, does anyone know of any software which might work here?

It's the same error. I'm pretty sure a DRM'd file would have errored out before that. Enabling debug output as I mentioned before would be the simplest solution to the problem if you really want 'this' version of the ebook, but some hand editing of the html will be required, perhaps to split it into multiple novels.

All of Dicken's novels are in the public domain, and accessible from many locations. Frankly that would probably be easier.

Ok, never mind. Found it all the way at the bottom of the Convert screen. I selected a directory. I will let you know once it's done.

Debug did absolutely nothing. All it did was put a readme file in the target directory.

So, given that downloading these one by one is not an option, what other options are there which might handle this file better, if Calibre aint cutting it?

If all you got was a readme file than calibre couldn't even do the first step and extract the html from the mobi file. DRM or a malformed file is the only reason I can see that calibre couldn't even do the first step.

Calibre can't do the first basic step of extracting the html. You never really answered, is the original download restricted with DRM? Can you view the file in calibre's library with Mobipocket Reader?

Maybe someone else can point you to an alternative.

I have the De-DRM plugin installed, so, if there IS DRM, it's automatically removed, so, I don't know for sure if it has DRM or not. Is there a way for me to tell? And, yes, I can view the Mobi file in Calibre by double clicking it (it takes forever to open but it does open and, from a quick scan, it appears to look fine).
