AC charger and DC (car) chargers are available to Walmart

No I don't work for Walmart but thought those looking for extra chargers for work, travel, etc might like to know.

For the AC charger Walmart carried 2 models. The $18.99 one also has a 5V USB port so you can charge your other devices. Its rated at 1.3A, not sure if it will charge the ipad through USB though. Unfortunately you can't use the adapter and USB port at the same time. The switch allows you to change from 12V down to 3v then to USB charging. The $14.99 model does not have the USB port. However, its only rated to 0.6A so I'm not sure it would work on the PE. (This one I did not buy - but given Walmart's less stringent return policy, returing it shouldnt be a problem)

The 1.3A is the one I have and it works fine.

The DC charger ($14.99) is similar to the 1.3A model including a USB port. I also have that one and it charges the PE just fine. Its rated at 2A (not sure how true) but it can probably charge the ipad too.

This was purcharsed in the Indianapolis, IN area. All these chargers are universal with multiple tips that may work on multiple different types of devices. In addition, the tips have a very tight and snug fit so the risk of loosing it is very low.

Amazon has it for $16.99 right now with FSSS but you have to spend $25 unless you have prime, also if it does not work, its a pain to pay shipping to send it back unless the Amazon CS is sympathetic.

lol just what you were looking for! If the wall one doesn't charge your iPad, it can probably be made to do so with some simple soldering(iProducts like something over the data lines, I don't remember what exactly).

well, sort of, but man, all electronics manufacturer should be shot for not just having one simple standard for charging. I'm kind of glad at least with some newer smartphones from nokia and samsung now have either mini or micro usb charging instead of priperitary plugs.

yeah, most devices nowadays are moving to USB, but tablets are having trouble due to the amount of power consumed by their larger screens and the tiny amount of power supplied by USB...

That was what I was talking about. For that price why make one - even if I did just for the hell of it (it was before I could find any ready made for sale).

Will this work on the EE? I'd imagine since it does the PE just fine it should do the EE, but confirmation would be nice

sorry glenj, I don't have a EE but it actually has 7 different interchangable tips. Its output is about 1.3A so it should work but I can't comment on that since I don't have a EE. Worst case, take your EE with you. Tried the adapters in the parking lot and if none of the tips fit then go back in and get a refund. Oh, bring a pair of scissors with you to cut open the packaging.

The EE uses the same tip as the PE.

The EE power supply is 12v at 2.5A though so I wouldn't expect much charging if anyone is using the EE at the same time.

Might I suggest instead of buying a new charger that even with multi-tips, is still limited in device support, buying a power inverter for your car? I use a 400w inverter that has two grounded outlets and a USB outlet. I don't own car chargers for any of my electronic devices, I charge them all with their factory wall chargers and have the USB as a bonus. It's saved us an awful lot of money since we stopped relying on car chargers.

That advice is fine if you have a car with a big enough battery and extra capacity in the alternator to provide the necessary extra charge.

Most small cars do not have alternators that will supply anything much more than the fitted electrics. Your 400w inverter draws about 40A on full load while the alternators on most small cars supply 60A - fine if you are not driving at night and using the inverter, if it is used while night driving you end up with a flat battery. I had to fit a 120A alternator and extra battery to my 4x4 to enable me to use my 800w inverter (80A draw on full load).

Large cars can usually manage to use up to a 400w inverter with out too many problems but even then they have been known to finish up with a flat battery when running the inverter with all the other equipment.

The cigarette lighter adapter is 10A-15A max depending on your vehichle so there is no possible way it's drawing 40a. The PE draws 5A and my iPhone draws 1A. Even with my netbook also plugged in, I'm not drawing anywhere near 15A. Max wattage =/= amperage draw, the machine only draws what you ask it for. And 60A alternators went out in the early 90s, most vehicles now come standard with 90A-120A. Now to add my anecdata to that technical information, I've run this machine in a Pontiac Grand Prix, VW Jetta, Lexus SUV and sedan, Honda Odessey, Chevy Colorado, and a couple others I'm sure I'm missing with ZERO dead batteries including driving overnights in the rain, leaving devices on it overnight while the engine was off and charging, and once my daughter tried to use our hand vac on it (which obviously draws more than 15A) and not even a blown fuse, the vacuum just refused to turn on. Now, this particular inverter can be hard-wired to a battery to draw more power than the cigarette receptacle will allow, but there are much smaller ones that only handle up to 15A but I work in the automotive industry and know what I can and can't install on the vehicle so I have my big one that has more flexibility.

Of course it will draw less on virtually no load. W=V x A still applies so the max watts you will get for a 15A supply is 150. You are also talking from a US perspective whereas I am seeing it from a European view point. I have vet to see a 2CV with anything larger than a 60A alternator, or a small Fiat for that matter (the one I had was fitted with a 50A alternator).

I agree there are smaller inverters that would be more practical for use with low powered devices that can be powered from the lighter socket but doesn't that make such an inverter rather redundant when you can get a charger that plugs directly into the lighter socket for a few pounds, euro or dollars?
