Gray Boxes in .mobi?

Hi all,
To set off a text book in an ebook that I am creating, I put a background-color style in the .xhtml file of that chapter. The .xhtml file is part of an .epub file which displays the gray text box fine, but when I convert the .epub to .mobi the gray background of the text disappears. Any help on getting my code to work in the mobi file as well would be great, thanks.

It won't work. It's not supported in Mobipocket.

Depending on the reader's screen, it might be hard to read, even in ePub.

Hi,

if you want to have a grey background for the text then you need to use a table.

just create a one cell table, put the text into the cell and then set the background colour.

The limitation is that all the text in the cell must fit on one page. If the text is too long for one page, the Kindle will just ignore the extra text.

To further complicate the above, you have to be able to accommodate the potential text sizes users might choose.

boy do you have that right! the most common complaint that i heard about both the kindle 1 & the kindle 2 was that the contrast was not good because the background was too gray. this is just not a good idea.
