The built in recorder records to aac which is basically MP4. Does it have to be MP3?

Kinda. MP3 seems most acceptable to email to people. I tried HI Recorder and it crashes out at anything but 8k sampling rate. The preloaded recorder works ok but hate the format. Oh well.

I am guessing you mean HI-Q that you tried? http://www.appbrain.com/app/hi-q-mp3...3recorder.full

Are there converters that work on Android?

There is an app called Tape-a-talk that saves as .wav
http://www.freewarelovers.com/android/app/tape-a-talk

Requires Android 2.1 up, I have not tried it on the edge.

Yesterday I used the audio recorder for the first time to record a board meeting. I need to make notes on it today and the problem I have is that I cannot find the file it saved.

I see it in Library (which also wasn't in the manual), but how do I get at it in a File Manager app? Where IS the "library"?
Also, "info" doesn't tell me the location or size -- not much info there.
I tried ES File Explorer, going to root and doing a search. I get the keyboard, type in 'Recording' and hit "DONE" but the keyboard stays up. Using the back key gets me to the search dialog with the word 'recording' in the box, but it's grayed-out and hitting OK doesn't search for or find anything.

Any idea how I can find the file AUDIO RECORDER recorded and saved? I understand it's an .AAC format, which is alright -- I'll deal with that.

Thanks!

There's one .aac file in that folder, just not the one I recorded yesterday. I know the file is there because I can retrieve it through Library and play it. It's just very hard to hear on the tiny speakers. I'd prefer to move it to my PC and listen there.

You're right, of course. I forgot I exported mine and deleted from the Library. D'oh
