Question How to link 350 to laptop - or Calibre... ?

My son's 350 is registered with an Adobe ID at his PC at home. The Sony Reader software programme is also on the PC.
Being away at University and with a nice fancy laptop, how does he transfer it to this machine please ? [We're in the UK.]

Or does he in fact need to do anything about it ?
Can he simply put Calibre, (or something else) on the laptop and use that on it's own with the 350 - any drawbacks to doing that ?

The Reader & Adobe would then just remain on the PC if needed ?

He, unlike me, is pretty tech-savvy, and will be able (probly) to cope with any suggestions offered.

I'm still to get my act together around transfering books back to computer !

Unhappy Sorry, another problem's cropped up !

Calamity... ? The 350 mentioned above was inadvertently left on charge for around 24 hours, and the screen is now frozen.....
It shows "USB" SCREEN, states it is "USB connected" , (while it isn't) and says "charging stopped".

No reaction to either stand-by or shut-down operations.
Does it need a reset ?

Desperately searching through Forum to see if any similar problem, nothing specific so far.

Thanks.

In answer to first query, I would suggest you install ADE on the laptop then authorize it with the same ADE user ID as used on your PC. If you have any DRM books on the PC they can then be transferred to the laptop and vice-versa.

You may need to install the Sony Reader software as I think it installs drivers. The last time I tried ADE without the Sony software ADE didn't see the reader.

Personally I only use Calibre to manage my books, Sony Reader software is only on for the above reason. So its up to you which you prefer. I can't think of any reason why you shouldn't put Calibre on the laptop

As for transferring the books, I would think you could just drag and drop from the reader when its connected to the laptop. Or use a USB hard drive if you have one.

As for the second query, not sure about that.

Smile ALL WELL ON SECOND QUERY....

Thanks Blackadder , will pass that on, excellent

Regarding the second - panic over.

I tried 3 resets, the 3rd did the trick, it turned on, and all books are still loaded.

Phew....

Being left on charge will NOT cause any problem unless the computer goes into sleep/standby in which case the battery can drain and leave you stuck with the message on screen as insufficient power to refresh...
