mobi on nook touch

I've got a number of free books which I've converted using calibre to the mobi format. These work just fine when I upload to my kindle. However, when I send the same books to my new nook touch some (not all) come up as unknown file formats.

So, is mobi not the best format for nook? In this case I'll have to convert my books to epub as well? I share a lot of books between the 2 devices (my wife uses the kindle, I get the nook 'cause it's newer ). Suggestions welcome.

mobi is Amazon's proprietary format so only an Amazon reader will work with those as is.

Though with Calibre and a couple of plugins, you can convert mobi file to epubs for your Nook (and vice versa). It's really a fairly easy process. I do it to every single ebook I buy regardless of the vendor.

Good luck.

The nook supposedly supports DRM-free Mobi; I think that's the point the poster is making.

Not according to the specs:

The Kobo supports Mobi.

No native support for mobi on the nookcolor either, according to the specs and the latest manual. I doubt it will work unless rooted, but who knows. It would be cool if all eInk readers could read both ePubs and MOBIs without conversion.

My apologies - I must be getting the two mixed up. The reason for my confusion is the fact that the original poster stated, talking about Mobi books, that "some (not all) come up as unknown file formats." Surely ALL should come up as unknown file formats, should they not?

My error ... I thought I didn't have any epub files on the nook at all. It appears that calibre (wonderful program!) automagically sent the right files. I think the mobi files were ones I copied manually or something.

Thanks all.
