Book Viewer
Is there a way to view Book Covers instead of a directory type listing by author (which is how I'm seeing them now)?

Long press the center button, select "view".
Your options will depend on the theme. There are also alternate themes optimized for cover view. |

That didn't work for me. I selected to view thumbnails but, I'm seeing thumbnails of the folders themselves. Can anyone help here please? I do not wish to see folders. I want to see book covers without having to go into each individual folder.

On my Sony Readers and on my new Nook, I see all the book covers that are stored in the reader, regardless of directory structure (Calibre sends books in directory by author). I would like to be able to view my library in that manner.

for the OP put it in the section at the top of wished for features and the like... this is something I would like to see... most PDF files have an embedded preview image. It is not asking to much is it?

It might be a feature that is already here. I'm too new with this reader, and, given how configurable it already is, I can't imagine that a simple library viewer is something that isn't already available. I will wait for someone to chime in.

Are you browsing in "Files" mode (look at the tabs at the top)? Browsing via the "Library" tab should just show covers.

Not sure what that means. In the main menu, I am clicking on "Books." Then it brings up a bunch of directories. The only thing it says at the top is "Books."

Sorry, I assumed you were using one of the Pro series of readers instead of a 360. Never mind my crappy advice.

No problem. Thanks for the effort. So as of right now, there is no way to view your library of books OTHER than in directory structure (which really sucks)? If so, to me, this is the first MAJOR shortcoming of the device, and an absolute deal breaker for me. It would take this device from being on par with my other readers, to the absolute bottom of the barrel.

As of right now, I dont know of a theme that would allow you to display your books the way you have them set up on your reader. You want to just see them as book covers correct? Not see the directory first then when selected see the listing of the books? I assume you currently have your books set up in directories on your PB360 by authors name. IE - Authors name1 (directory) .. book 1 .. book 2 .. etc Authors name2 (directory) .. book 1 .. book 2 .. etc If so, what you will want to do is have all the books be in only one directory. You could still incorporate authors name / series / book in the title of each file for sorting etc. Personally, I perfer to have each authors books in its own directory, I then set the book names with series / series # - book title inside that directory. Makes it way easier to find and organize =) Just to let you know why people think that way of organizing things is great ( directory structure etc), I currently have over 1200 books by 403 authors on my ereader. There is NO WAY i want to be forced to sort thru all my books tring to find the next one to read. There is a better way to find / see books then listed above ( putting them all in one directory ), you could get a copy of Calibre ( sub form here on this board ). This is a book cataloging / library program that is SUPPER easy to use, keeps track of all your books ( including covers / subnopsis ), and helps you manage what is on your ereader. I use it as a master library catalog, moving books to my reader etc. It has great preview features and what have you. Please check it out ... on the website for it the creator has a small video describing features etc. If you start using it, I promise that you will wonder how you ever got along with out it. I have Calibre, and am very familiar with it. Calibre has nothing to do with how a library is viewed ON the reader. Only on the computer. So, I'm not sure what one thing has to do with the other.
And, we can agree to disagree, cause ifI want to only see books by a certain author, I could search for that author. I don't want to be forced to go into a directory of that author. So, we will agree to disagree on this. Either way, your suggestion of moving all the books into ONE directory, might actually work for me. Thanks. |

By the way, when you say "There is NO WAY i want to be forced to sort thru all my books tring to find the next one to read." I don't quite get it, cause, if you don't know what you are going to read next, then you would have to sort through your entire collection ANYWAY. And if you are only looking to read something from one particular author, then you could simply SEARCH for the author, which means, again, the directory structure really serves very littler purpose.

Myself I find putting the books in a directory structure _after_ I read them to be most productive.

It goes really fast that way. Scan thru my books in calibre / set up selection on ereader, then just use the "last 10 read books" feature to swap / go thru them. |
