thoughts after a weekend with the KT
still really like it. Very fast and responsive to touch. Boots about 15-20 faster than wifi from power off. Books also load way faster (although KEPUB books still take a little longer to load in between chapters; Millennium series was always bad for this)
Ghosting doesn't really bother me; it's so slight that it's more like a real book the way it is; seriously, go pick up a real paperback or hard cover and turn to any page; I can almost guarantee you that you'll see the words from the next and previous pages bleeding through. If people could survive with it there, they can survive with it in the electronic age...geez. but there are a couple of things I'd like to see firmware updates: -activity bar when booting. As is, there's just a static powering on screen. While it is faster than the old wifi, makes it hard to tell if the device is working, or heaven forbid, has frozen. - progress bar when processing new content. here there is an activity screen, but when I first added my library to the device, it took a good 20 minutes to process everything. at least with the progress bar on the old wifi, I knew it where it was in the processing, and could hazard a guess as to when it was going to be finished. - better Author sorting; it should be Author, then alphabetical title; right now it seems like it's random title sort. - This particular point I find to be essential: in the book library list, please re-add the ability to see unread/open/finished books status along with the % of the book read. This is particularly useful in multi-kobo families that share the same account. If I see that a book is in progress, I'll usually wait until the other person is finished so I don't screw up her book marks. It also helps in reminding me of which books I've already finished or ones that I've started already but put down. This wouldn't be needed if there were separate unread/in progress/ finished lists. - a nice to have: expanded reading life stats; disappointed to see that it only tracks one book at at a time and there's no overall all stats apart from total hours read and number of books read. I'd like to see overall stats for average reading session, average page turns per session and total page turns. When I look at the stats tracked in the iPad app, I'm pretty jealous that our native device doesn't get the same treatment. Of course, this is just a frivolous request ![]() along with the above, I 'd also like to have a list of books within the reading life stats so I can select a book to view its stats, rather than selecting a book, closing it, going over to reading life, checking the stats, repeat. Also, If I just finished a book, this is the book that should be displayed in the stats, not the next random open one. and that's more or less all I can think of; everything else works pretty much as I expected. Overall very pleased with the new device. |

nice. i agree with your points. it's a pretty sweet device and very responsive and fast. if they fix some of those 'extra' features with the next firmware upgrade to just add to the functionality of the device then it'll be even better than it already is. all of the points are minor.
i'd also like to see the currently reading section, when it boots up i don't want 5 random books i'd rather have my short list show up on the main page, or at least a currently reading tab that shows up on the main page. |

yes, this is another point that could be improved upon, although the books shown aren't really random though; it's the last five books opened or added. I opened 5 books and they all ended up being there, I then added a book, and it bumped the last opened one on the list off (or rather, the first opened one). So the list itself is predictable, and while it would be nice if you could choose what was being displayed (shortlist perhaps), it's really not a huge thing for me; all that's important is the last book I was reading is always there ![]() |
