No LINUX compatibility for Sony ereaders?

It's not relevant to me, but I was thinking of gifting one to a friend who uses Linux or some other oddball operating system. Looks like Sony ereader (or maybe just its software, which of course one doesn't have to use) supports only Mac and PC.

Is there any ereader which functions on all platforms (computer operating systems not elevated thingamajigees)?

BTW, page 117 of reader guide says "Reader Library is not supported by... personally built computers." Someone call Heathkit!

It is mainly an issue of authorizing the reader under Linux as Adobe doesn't offer an ADE for Linux.
However, it can be done if you emulate Windows:

Funny, my 350 seems to work fine with my Linux box.
