				Is anti-glare screen protector necessary?

I saw that B&N has an anti-glare screen protector available for the Nook Touch for when you use it outdoors to reduce glare and also protect from fingerprints.

http://gifts.barnesandnoble.com/Anti...?cds2Pid=35725 Does anyone own one of these and do you feel it makes a difference? The screen already has a matte finish and it doesn't attract fingerprints. I own a NC and I immediately got the anti-glare screen protection because of the fingerprint smudges, but I don't see the point for the Nook Touch. |

I agree with you completely. I also bought a protector for my NC and think it really needs it, but feel no need for it on the Touch.

Thats silly...if its an eink type of display isn't one of the major selling features the lack of glare. Don't sound necessary at all.

I bought one for the nook touch but I am very clumsy and was afraid of scratching the screen if I dropped it or something. I don't even notice a difference with the protector on. I do not have a screen protector for the Kindle.

Screen protector might be nice for beach bums with sunscreen on their hands, not to mention salt spray & bird poop. I had a near miss today...

Yeah, I agree that a screen protector might be good as exactly that - a protector. But for fingerprints and smudges, I think it isn't necessary for the Touch. If I took it out and about (as opposed to just using it at home), I think I might get the protector.

The screen is glass. How exactly will a thin piece of plastic "protect it against fingerprints"? You will simply wind up with the finger smears on the plastic instead.

However, the Touch already has a matte finish on its screen, so it doesn't need the protector matte finish covering, IMHO (but it might be a good thing for actual protection from say salt spray or rain if you were outside). Last edited by RAH; 06-12-2011 at 02:58 PM. |

Agreed. I use my Kindle 2 outside a lot and have never had a problem with glare. I would assume that it would be the same for the Nook touch.

A screen protector makes no sense with this model while using it, although protecting it while it's in your purse or bag is probably a wise idea. I've ordered a neoprene zippered case from Amazon to fill that role (it'll stay in my purse).
