Kindle now available in Canada
I'm not sure if this has been mentioned yet, but I just saw in the Source flyer that the Kindle can now be bought at the Source in Canada, It's $169.99 for the wi-fi version & $229.99 for the 3g/wi-fi version.

As usual, more expensive than in the US.... *sigh*
I've just checked on La Source website but didn't see the kindle on it though. |

Wow, $169.99? So we're paying for it to be shipped to The Source? How much is it at Best Buy in the US?

It's $139 at amazon.ca, and $189 for the 3G version. They are advertising free shipping, so I wouldn't bother with The Source.

The Amazon.ca link redirects to the buy page on Amazon.com, so the Free Shipping offer only applies to US addresses, and of course you still pay duties on top of that.

Canadian customers do not get a wall charger ... it's included in the $139.99 price in the US. I wonder if The Source version has the wall charger? That's "worth" $20.

Yeah, it comes to about $169 bucks with shipping to Canada, so it sounds like they want to keep pricing the same. No wall charger, aye?

I bought one from Amazon and had it shipped to Canada
It malfunctioned and I had a new one the next day. (shipped from Texas I think to Canada) I would buy from Amazon myself. Helen |

It's just a standard USB wall charger. Surely you can buy one of those for a lot less than $20, can't you?

No, the point is the Amazon dongle charger -- which came included with the Kindle 2 for Canada and which is shipped in the US but not to Canada for the Kindle 3 -- is an additional $20 ($10 if you happen to notice it on checkout with the original order) for Canadian shipments.
As much as I like Amazon, it continues to treat its northern neighbour as a poor cousin. And, in this case, I was just wondering if the locally purchased Kindle had the charger ... that would at least justify a slightly higher retail price. I use Blackberry chargers (mini and micro USB, depending on Kobos, Kindles or Kobo Touch) instead of computer charging. It's easy, quick, and simple for travelling (where I don't bring a laptop). |

Well, this is good news.. I guess.
Too bad the Source is one of the worst places to buy any electronics. I'd even rather go to Best Buy. |

Has anyone bought a Kindle from The Source?
Last time I went there, I got a ridiculous amount of pressure from the sales clerk to buy an extended warranty for the item I wanted. Wondering if Kindle customers there will be 'encouraged' to take out an extended warranty, instead of dealing with Amazon/Kindle direct. |

Supply & demand. Canada is what, 1/10 the populatioin of the US? It's always going to cost more because of that. We in Canada don't have the buying power the US consumer market does.
It's no different than why are prices cheaper at Walmart than say Sears? (no arguments re slave labour costs please) It's buying power. They buy more so they pay less because of it. |
