format is wrong

Hi

When I convert a PDb file to a mobi file I get wrong formatting as I get line space instead of continuation of text..

Example:

Her name was Summer. It was a name that conjured visions of hot petaled flowers, sudden storms and

long, restless nights. It also brought images of sun-warmed meadows and naps in the shade. It suited her.

As she stood, hands poised, body tensed, eyes alert, there wasn't a sound in the room. No one,

Any idea what I am doing wrong.

Thanks

Colin

Probably something in the input file.

Try reconverting with the Heuristics processing enabled to see if that improves things.

Update

When I view this in word it has arrow pointing to the left (not sure what the correct term for it is) which causes the extra blank lines.

I will give your suggestion a try.

Thanks

Most likely your PDB file is a PalmDOC PDB. In that case it's just a TXT file inside of the PDB container. TXT tries to auto detect the formatting. Sometimes it gets it wrong and the formatting comes out wrong in a conversion. Unfortunately, PDB input does not allow you to specify the formatting (TXT does). I can be sure this is happening if you post the conversion log. If this is the case you can try a tool like pdbshread and extract the TXT from the PDB then you will have more options and control over the conversion.

What I am getting is a manual line break (that is what word calls it).

I tried using Heuristics processing and it gave me the same layout but instead of manual line break it had paragraph marks instead.

Can you tell me where I find the conversion log please.

Thanks

Convert the book. Click jobs at the bottom right of the window. Select the conversion job. Click show details at the bottom of the window. Copy and paste here. Oh and when you page it here please wrap it in the spoiler tag. [ spoiler ] ... [ /spoiler ] <- without the spaces.

In plain English...

Not a legal copy and not a well made copy. One of those downloaded from the net dodgy copies. I kind of figured that as it's got the classic symptoms.

Most eBooks sold via eBay are illegally sold.

If that is the case how come Ebay allow it?

Thought they were hot in shutting down dodgy stuff?

Was it reported? EBAY is mostly automated.
Reports get a human eyes attention.

From the output of the conversion log I'm 99.999% certain that the formatting issue you're seeing is not due to calibre. It is how the text in your input file is laid out.

The test for line breaks returned false, so heuristics didnt try unwrapping the lines. You can reduce the line unwrap factor to force the line unwrap code to work. Can't guarantee it will help though, depends on how the HTML is defined. The fact that heuristics found the chapter headings is a positive sign.

In eReader PDB input each line is treated as a paragraph and wrapped in a <p> tag.
