upgrading kobo wifi
So I bought the Kobo WiFi from a Borders closeout for $70.00 but I am starting to get upgrade envy with all the new readers coming out. I think that the three readers that I am looking at are the Kindle 3, Nook Touch, and Kobo Touch. Hopefully Kobo Touch reviews should be rolling out in the next week or two. Anyone else getting upgrade envy?

It seems a lot of people are struck with Kobo Touch envy.
Myself, I can't think of anything worse than my Kobo performing some function I don't want every time I inadvertently hit the screen while I'm reading. My Kobo WiFi does everything I want it to do. I read, and I turn pages with a button. That's about it. I know it's wacky, but it's all I want to do on my reader. The battery also seems to last forever as a bonus. Couldn't be more satisfied. ltr |

While I've been very happy with my wifi, which I got back on October when it was launched, I am giving the touch a serious look. I don't think inavertent touches will be a problem while reading, but could be potentially a problem when picking up the device up or putting it down. I'm mainly looking at it because my current device's button is wearing out already, and if I do pick one up, it won't be until August, so I'll be able to gauge other peoples reaction first

I would say I am "intrigued" but go no further.
I have a wifi unit that is doing quite well for me, and which may yet receive a tweek or two via firmware...and at the risk of sounding negative, given the recent history of the handheld electronics industry and Kobo too, I think we'll be talking about a "Kobo Colour" a scant 11.5 months from now. And then I would have 2 e-readers facing dust-collection duty. So yeah, the Touch sounds neat...but it only just occurred to me the other day that a new model probably means an update to the desktop app, and maybe a "parity" update to older models where possible...so new bells and whistles there to play with. |
