Development Issue upgrading to Ermine

Need advice here ..

I have signed up for Ermine beta upgrade, then I tried to update through PE.

I am watching closely the download progress, it seems to keep restarting .. at one time the download progress already 8% then it went back and started from 0% again .. the other time it reached 27% but then it started from 0% again ..

Now, have been waiting for 1 hours, still looping .. the progress indicator shows 4% ..

Is that normal? Seems very long .. I read somewhere it should be very fast ..

Now trying to set Wifi never sleeps when plug in to power and screen off to 5 minutes .. see how it goes .. will report back

Here is a possible solution proposed by another forum user, attemptress: One suggestion: If you keep getting failed downloads, you may want to be sure you've set your wi-fi not to shut off when the device is plugged in (otherwise, it may turn-off when the device "sleeps"). To do this, go to network settings, then press the menu button. A two-button menu will pop-up. Press "advanced". Press "Wi-Fi sleep policy" at the top of the screen. Select either "Never" or "Never when plugged in." Also, a couple of other posts recommend you disable screen saver. I'm getting my PE today and I'm on the edge of my seat (I plan on upgrading to Ermine, maybe) so please let me know how it goes.

I just posted the exact same thing, probably at the same time you posted it. Like I said, I'm due a PE today and I want to upgrade to Ermine so I am VERY interested in how your upgrade experience goes. Thanks.

how do we disable screen saver? you mean set the longest time for screen off?

now it is still at 18% downloading ..

That's what I meant. I should have been a little more clear. The User guide says the maximum screen timeout is 5 minutes. I read a couple of other posts that recommended to set screen saver to max and set Wi-fi sleep policy to never. Like I said, I don't have my PE yet. I should have it today so I am following your post closely. Good Luck.

i am happy to report that the upgrade went well after i set the wifi to never sleeps when plug in to power and screen off to 5 minutes .. i would say my first impression of ermine is pretty good .. things running faster .. have not got time to try out in details ..

That's what I'm talking about !!! I'm happy to hear it went OK after setting the screen saver to 5 minutes and Wi-Fi to never sleep. After reading numerous posts I'm convinced these two steps are essential to a successful upgrade. As soon as my PE arrives (Fedex tells me it's out for delivery) I'll post my own upgrade experience. Thanks for the encouraging update.

I ran into the same issues, it seems the connection to entourage's update server is pretty finicky and obviously the update app has trouble resuming when the download hangs... the fix was similar.

I have done all the steps > sleep mode off > wifi never goes off > opt for beta upgrade >
One I ask to update, it stays on searching for possible update (even for one hour), nothing beyond that, or close with some network error (my other devices and even PE is browsing fine on same wifi)
Any advice??

All I can suggest is to keep trying at different times of the day, and possibly via other wifi hotspots. Web browsing is very different from downloading a ~200 Mb file - web pages download a small amount quickly, several seconds apart, while a 200 Mb download requires a steady connection (one blip and the download may fail).

I found the solution, and for those still stuck, here it is:
- Update to latest Dingo, preferably using offline method (download update zip, copy to USB blah blah)
- One update is complete, opt for beta as explained above, if not done already
- Update

It was long awaited update, many software I wanted required 2.2
Some hickups;
Access to edge store is off
Some games, flysmasher, airport mania, Sally spa do not run, rather freeze the PE needing reset
Camera apparently started working from inside Facebook (it used to crash)

What do you mean by "Access to edge store is off", exactly? I was able to run the Store app and access eBooks and Apps, no problem.

Possibly the enTourage site is down?

It might be the case as @Filark pointed out. It is working now (after about 20 hours).
It was working just before the upgrade, and started giving various errors (comm problem or site is down) the very first time I accessed it after the upgrade, and it remained like this till the last time I attempted before sleeping. A perfect situation to blame 'upgrade' to this fault.

Just to add one thing about my last post. "Upgrade the Dingo even if you have done already"
Anyway I am happy with it, few more goods and bad
Good:
- Landscape reading, excellent idea for reading magazines and scanned PDFs (many of Urdu language ebooks are scanned type)
- Att into Browser from eReader side is a good idea (but could not find how it works)
- Battery seem to perform better (not sure why, may be hibernating has better power saving)

Bad:
- More frequent crashes, even fring was crashing. Before the upgrade It was working even with video calls.
- Have not been successful in moving a single app to SD, either using appstoSD (free) or native 'app manager'
- Games, even installed from eDGe store are causing the crash. I have deleted almost all.
