Kindle is meh
Picked up new Kindle from a friend who did not want it for 100 bucks and I'm not very happy with it, the format nightmare alone is grating on me but the touch screen I have to admit is more accurate than entourage's. As much as I like the dual book concept I'm just not seeing where it is going with new screen technologies like color e-ink and the like catching up. I had not seen an update in awhile and was wondering about that, looks pretty morose about here, hope they don't go under.

So we're talking about 9" or larger eink screens.
The only interesting machine we may see on the market in at least 5 months is the Boox M90. Next Hanvons' Colour e-ink is not what I would call "colour", it's a very simple rgb layer, and the resolution's not high. We will not see Mirasol on the market before 2012, and nobody talked about a 9" with those. Kindle DXG has no touchscreen and you people, dont forget how delicate is the 9,7 glass screen of all the eink ereaders on the market. EE is way stroger due to his stronger body. I've had the Asus dr900 and I returned after a week, it's just not ready for the market, I would call its rough software a 0.5 beta product Sony does nor make any e-ink larger than 7", and there are no info about any new device. The same is for Kindle, the new ones are expected for 2012. At present, there's no more powerful e-ink device than EE, just deal with it. I consider it like that, the tablet part makes it a multimedia e-ink, from my perspective. Last edited by lorenzoens; 03-28-2011 at 07:41 PM. |

I like my Kindle (although I'm not so fond of Amazon). It is good for what it is: an ereader. I was looking for a device, however, that would benefit me in doing research, something the Edge seemed nearly perfect for (I wanted a few features it doesn't have, e.g. multiple books open at once and easy movement between open texts). But alas, poor Yorick.

Actually, if I can do without eink, NookStudy is pretty much perfect. I just need to get a Windows tablet for it to run on. But I'd prefer eink.

I will give NookStudy 6 out of 10 stars. Only because i'm a Linux snob and they do not have a Linux Ver. yet. Great application my oldest spends more time with NookStudy then his XBOX!!!!!

I use the "Reader" icon at the bottom of the LCD side to quickly switch among the last 9-10 books I've accessed...

I meant having them open side by side for comparisons. This would be extremely useful for me, especially doing research in languages other than English (which is another issue-Greek language support, which is important for me).
