How can a small startup like NI already have an SDK ready for developers before the device even ships? I thought that kind of thing took months to produce.

How can a small startup like enTourage have a device ready for shipping when they presented it at the trade fair back in January? NI have had months to produce their SDK from when they promised the device was going to be made available but erm.....wasn't. What good's an SDk without a device?

The early access programme is about getting your hands on a device, not just the SDK.

How can any company be developing apps for their (tablet/mp3 player/....) without an SDK?
what is taking entourage so long is getting it out to us?

I think you're effectively talking about the difference between an API and an SDK. enTourage (at least to begin with would (I imagine) program against the API). I see an SDK as a more user friendly wrapper for the API so the development community can produce apps quickly without having to worry too much about low level API stuff and the nitty gritty of the specific device. Especially if the SDK is to be generic for the pocket device too. The SDK would probably be able to abstract and therefore hide minor differences in the hardware between the two devices.

That of course is just my opinion.

I don't think holding back on releasing the eDGe until they had an SDK ready would have been a wise move for enTourage. Having seen the CES2010 demos of various products on YouTube and held out till May for the Adam, the reason I bought the eDGe vs the NI Adam was that it was actually available.

Many of the other tablets etc turned out to be vaporware or were canned.

From what I understand, API is application programming interface. This is a software convention, and without documentation the API isn't usually visible to anyone who cannot run a debugger/disassembler to dissect already built software. SDK is the software development kit that documents how to use the API. Sometimes this documentation is as little as the include files for compiling. Sometimes it includes lots of human-readable reference and tutorials with additional tools for convenience.

I really wish they would release that SDK soon. I'm getting frustated with the lack of updates recently...

Something's happening re: Adam on December 9. They have a binary number in the upper right corner of their new website that appears to decrement once each day, and if that pattern continues it will reach 0 on December 9. Any guesses?

Eve is introduced after which Adam has no more late nights and is constantly told he's not "good enough."

LOL It isn't worth worrying about. As I said, I was being a moron. I do that occasionally.

I'll tell you in a OPM if you are really going to be driven nuts, but it will be very anticlimactic.

Don't do it, I hate anticlimaxes.

There's also a hard-coded hexadecimal number (-D5270A80) beneath the presumed day counter, and this number hasn't been changing...that's equal to the Unix date representation for 10 July 1856, which is Nikola Tesla's birthdate. Tesla was most famous for work on AC electrical generators, wireless remote control, and of course the Death Ray, so perhaps the Adam has a feature related to one of these.

Or perhaps I'm just engaging in Bat Deduction.

Notion Ink put up the Adam for pre-order today. Some scandals though: EAP developers reporting they never got a device, prices $25 to $100 higher than previously advertised, and the "pictures" of the device on the websites turn out to be sloppy CG renders when enterprising investigators discover that the bezel width is different in different pictures.
