Looks interesting, but pricey. Here's a cheaper alternative, from a company I trust. http://www.buypcdirect.com/product.a...TO-967684-0403

Um....Book Gem http://www.bookgem.com anyone? I'm sorry, but I cannot fathom having to bend over a full-sized keyboard to write on the E-ink screen when using the Book Gem makes it perfect AND it works with the eDGe in all of its positions without hassle. As for the keyboard option, I'm using a mini slim keyboard and it gives me all the versatility I need. If those Netbook risers had smaller keyboards and form-factors, I'd be sold on the idea.

Anybody using a cooler for the big eDGe?
I forget to turn on the AC power one time so the eDGe gave notice that the battery was getting low. I charged it from around 15% and noticed after some time that the bottom half of the eink (reader on the right) was quite hot (not the normal warmth I was accustomed to). I was not able to determine the temperature though.
It got me thinking about buying a cooling stand. I found a 3-fan cooler at Amazon: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cooler-Maste...=37LOYLWX656OO I quite like the fact that the fans have adjustable positions and the cooler provides a tilt. (I'm propping my eDGe with a couple of books right now when I have to do heavy reading.) But I'm quite apprehensive about the possible consequence of three fans, albeit small, drawing power from the eDGe via USB. Is anybody using a cooling stand? (Please provide brand or image if possible.) How does it affect the performance of the eDGe? Thanks. Looking forward to your posts. |

I only use a cooling pad for my laptop to keep its hard drive cool (a hot hard drive wears out fast).
Computers (including their batteries) run better and last longer when cooler than warmer, as a rule, so there's no harm in using a cooling stand with the eDGe, although I'm pretty sure its technically unnecessary. BTW, most cooling pads I've seen have an annoying and noticeable "hum" from the fans, except for the one I'm using (which is truly silent) and can't seem to find anymore. Does the one you bought make any noise? |

I have not bought the cooler yet Boris. I'm thinking about the possibility of the three fans causing the LCD to flicker (remember the complaint with the LED reading light). But the specs indicate that the noise level is 18dBA. I'm not sure how to translate that into qualitative terms though. But one website gave these stats: 10db normal breathing, 20db mosquito and rustling leaves. The specs, however, do not include the power requirement.
Funny thing is, I have no need for a cooler for my laptop with its 12-cell battery giving it sufficient tilt on top of the low UK temps (and my freezing flat). But the eDGe temp from last time got me scared enough to contemplate buying a cooler. I'll monitor it in the following days and see if it was just an atypical occurrence. |

I don't think you need a cooler for the eDGe. I had some trubble with the rubber corners a while back. The glue did not hold, so I messured the temparature for a while (Battery Snap). Most of the time the temparature was 23.1°C - 27.3°C (73.6°F - 81.7°F). Once it was 34°C (92.2°F), but even that gives no reason for extra cooling.
