Our next goal is porting Cyanogen 6 (2.2 froyo) to it, andgetting the market running. Awesome! I'm running CyanogenMod6 on my EVO and it's working great. =D Can't wait to see what it will do for the eDGe. =O

cyanogenmod will get you a very customizable froyo port built mostly from source with lots of extra features. Root by itself isn't going to be very useful to the average end user, with the exception of allowing you to use apps that need root permissions to access resources that are protected, like robots android on eink, or overclocking/underclocking.
