Speciall eDGe's apps

As programmer I'd like to know is there any need in software specially created for EE?
And if so, what kind of apps or unique features you'd like to get in this apps?

I have no idea if it's even possible (either technically or legally), but getting Kindle for Android to display on the eInk side would be a marvelous new capability.

I would like a way to search in the library of the EE fast and open the file from the found result. The ES-file explorer does search, but not opens the file on the e-reader.

sjarrel, ok it's seems easy to implement. I can make app that will search only for books (in all formats) and will let you to choose app that will open current book. Is it what you want?

walt526, it's possible, but only on rooted firmware (or when SDK will be published). So.., I don't know how much users will want to install rooted firmware, and how much of them will like to pay for an apps which will work only on rooted version. So...
In details.., create an apps will cost me from $500 to $1000 USD, so if there will be several thousand users who will buy it, I can sell it for $1.99, but if there will be only ten people who potentially will buy it, than what price should I set to just cover my investments?

Robot, I already found what I want: searching in the library and then open the item I was looking for on the eInk screen. It works with ES file explorer. I did try this before, but it did not work. Now I discovered that it does not work with -free- books from the Gutenberg project. It works fine with purchased books.

Robot,

Would it be possible to make an app wich put the content (PDF-FILES) of a directory on sd-card into the library and give the files the directoryname as tag?
(SD-card: /pensionfund/test/07-07-2010 -> tag: 07-07-2010)

Does it need root and what would be the cost?

I think it's possible, but I don't familiar with internal PDF format\library tagging system, also I don't think that the program like this will have big demand, so I not ready to tell the price.

Probably the real need is an alternative libraby app with folders, advanced search function, and sorting e.t.c. ?

For me, the ability to have searchable tags outside the library would be very helpful.

Should be the standard way and asked before on this forum (team enTourage attention please ;-) ).
But my "need" would be specific to automate the placement of a directory-content on sd-card in one step to the library and tag it along the way.

A second highly desired app would be a pdf-printer so .doc files, emails etc could be converted by the eDGe.

Thanks.
Jos.

Hi,

We have been asked for a way to drop a folder tree onto the SD card from a tethered PC or Mac and have the directory structure automatically create tags for the files in a folder that are named for the folder. There are a few ways to tackle this, and file management is getting a good bit of attention in the labs these days. I cannot promise anything at this time, but we have recorded the request.

Your second feature request is something we have considered as well. We are not actively working on it, but it will be recorded as a feature request.

dontpanic,

It's good to see you thinking about my requests!
It's even better to experience your openness!

Thanks, I'll wait and see.

Calibre also currently can't modify Tags or other meta data.
???? Do you mean within Calibre or that the eDGe doesn't recognize the tagging and meta data set in Calibre, because Calibre does provide changing metadata and tags.
