Can I buy one of these if I live in Australia?
Hi there, I have been coming back over and over again to look at the edge as I have been trying to decide on an ereader.
I live in Australia, can I buy them here or order them from the USA site and have it shipped to OZ? Do I have to buy books only from Entourage book shop or can I buy from anywhere? What types of books pdf etc does it read? If I think of anything else I will add on. I really like the look of this and love the fact you can surf the net on one screen whilst reading on the left, I read a lot of history books, mainly military history and it would be great to read the book on the left and then google on the right to get more info, images, video etc Hope you can help me HooRoo From Oz Craig |

There are several services in the US that provide a mailing/billing address and mail forwarding for ordering from companies who are unable to ship outside the country themselves. We happen to use myUS.com but there are others. Someone from the MobileRead forum was looking at shipping to Europe through another provider whose name escapes me right now.
At least in Canada, you can add that US address on to your credit card (by calling them and informing them) as an alternative address. Not all US companies require a US *billing* address, but many do require a US *shipping* address. This address works as both for us, if you tell the credit card you wish to add an authorized address to your account. With these services, the items are delivered to your US address (their offices) and then they package to reship to your international destination. We are Canadian and could have ordered an eDGe directly, but we happened to be in Mexico at the time our order was set to ship. So, we used our US address service to receive and forward on the package. Our shipping cost was approximately $95USD (and another $100USD in duty when it arrived) so it's not the cheapest option, but it is an option. |

Bugger! I have been looking for something just like this, the drama would be as well if you received here in Oz and it didnt work then it has to be posted back then reposted back to me. Oh well, back to the drawing board, a real shame, this would have been perfect.

shipping to OZ
Hello,
Sarah's option should work well for you. Lots of Canadians do use this US service. Expensive though. I ordered one and used my friend's US address for shipping and picked it up there, so I save around US$150 somewhere there. It should work well in OZ with wifi, not with future 3G feature, not yet until their international edition comes out. If voltage is an issue, you can always use an adapter. Edge's voltage is 110 volts, although I don't see it in specs. page. Last edited by edtng2; 04-04-2010 at 06:56 AM. |

The eDGe doesnt care what country it is in, be it the USA, Greece, Australia, or Mongolia. I live in Japan, and of course, there are no problems. WiFi is WiFi everywhere (as long as the router is 802.11 b/g/n standard .... and I am quite sure that every WiFi router meets these standards), so connectivity is no problem. The only issues are how to get it shipped (Sarah has some suggestions above, or use a friend) and if you need warranty service, its not simple (this is the only "risk" that I can imagine). The AC power adapters on virtually all hi-tech devices these days accept 100-240 VAC input, but you may need a new cord or plug adapter (NOT a voltage adapter) in some countries (e.g. Australia, Europe, etc). These can be obtained for less than $5 usually. The language issue is separate, and I am not sure how the eDGe works with other-than-Englosh input. As for display, I can tell you that it displays Japanese text and file names without difficulty. I imagine this is a function of Android. So just go ahead and get one and stop worrying!!

if you don't live in the USA or Canada, you'll take a risk. the risk is that in case of problems you're not able to easy shipping backward and forward. i took the risk and know the problem I'm facing. but, he, no risk, no fun. no i know this, it's better to wait until shipping is done to your country, instead of taking the risk.
