Library vanished

hello,

I've just joined this forum

I'll be getting a Kindle soon and have been collecting books on Calibre. Suddenly out of 120 books only 20 remain, the other 100 vanished mysteriously. Today when I upgraded Calibre I was left with only 2 book!!! Is it going to be like that, uploading books and they vanishing over and over again? Can anyone shed some light on this please. Any advice very welcome, but bear in mind I'm quite ignorant in these matters

Books going bye-bye is not normal.

Tell us your O/S

Tell us how (steps) you upgraded to see if you made a weird mis-step.

First - starting simple....are you sure you are viewing all formats of your ebooks?
Second - Have you ended up with multiple Library folders?

I can't see how an upgrade could 'delete' books.

I'm new to Calibre too, not only to this forum, I'm afraid..Anyway, I've been uploading books again, and hope I'll learn and won't make more mistakes.
My OS is OSX 10.5.8 btw.

I'm not sure if it was the upgrading that caused the vanishing scene, but the books are not there, that's the only think I'm sure 'cos on the menu bar I can see only 11 books (I uploaded 9 just now), hope they stay put

I may come back again with more questions, but at least I'm going to get more acquainted with Calibre before I ask any more stupid questions and you guys end up losing patience with be.

You should try a search of your hard drive on the name of one of the books that is MIA before giving up.... good chance you accidentally created more than one library folder. Good luck!

As GoSharks says... Make sure the books still exist on your harddrive. My guess is that they all still there.

My guess would be that you accidentally changed libraries with the 'choose calibre library to work with' button. Try clicking on the arrow on the right side of that button, and that will list your libraries -- then click to select.
