Free book (Kindle/B&N/Sony/iTunes/Kobo) The Time Machine

A new trend? The classic book bundled with an excerpt from a new one.

The Time Machine by H.G. Wells
Quote:
The Time Traveller, a dreamer obsessed with traveling through time, builds himself a time machine and, much to his surprise, travels over 800,000 years into the future. He lands in the year 802701: the world has been transformed by a society living in apparent harmony and bliss, but as the Traveler stays in the future he discovers a hidden barbaric and depraved subterranean class. Wells's transparent commentary on the capitalist society was an instant bestseller and launched the time-travel genre.

The Time Machine inspired the international bestseller The Map of Time byFélix J. Palma. As a gift to our readers, we are including the first three chapters of The Map of Time in this ebook edition.

Interesting. Sounds like a good trend, actually. Thanks!

Thanks Greencat! And thank you, Koland, for providing the alternate supplier links.
This allowed me to pick up the ebook easily, without adding to what I feel are probably skewed percentages of ebooks sold by different vendors, since I'm comfortable using Calibre. (I've "purchased" 100's of books from Amazon, and only a big handful from B&N, Kobo, etc. But, it's interesting to note that if I look at the non-free "purchases", the results change dramatically-- I probably buy, with real money, more books from Kobo than any other source. I'm trying to make a concerted effort to pick up more of my free offers from non-Amazon sources when available.)

I don't mind a blurb about the next/another book tacked onto a book, but hate the "sample" trend.
It really takes the edge off startinf a new story, I find....

I don't mind samples, but I dislike it being presented as special gift to me.

That's plaid-clad-used-car-salesman smarmy.

It should be presented as "If you enjoyed this book, please consider taking at look at this sample of a new book inspired by it, thank you so much...."

Time Machine is a great book, I agree. One of the few "olden-times" SF classics I actually enjoyed reading when I was younger.

I really loath this approach - in fact on a par with idiots cold-calling for glazing/persona accident claims/surveys, etc....
As I've said before, I don't mind the usual "inside cover "trailer" but a sample is as I said above, plus it ruins the start of a story I might want to read.

A brief description is all I want.

??? Why would reading the beginning ruin it? Isn't that where you would start in any case?

And if you don't want to read the sample...don't.
