: instead of _ in Kindle Book Title

How do I get titles with colons to appear correctly in the Kindle library list. Title: subtitle is what I want, but I get Title_ subtitle. Always an underscore for any non-comma punctuation in the title.

It's a metadata thing but how do I fix it?

Convert your books to MOBI format and send those to the Kindle.

Thank you. I guess PDFs will, however, continue to have the _ metadata? Or can I mass rewrite their metadata to display properly?

It depends on the PDFs, metadata cannot be written to all PDFs. If it can be written calibre writes it automatically.

I believe the Kindle falls back to reading the file name when it cannot read the metadata from the file. : is not a useable character for the file name. I could be replacing the : with a _ when sending to device then the Kindle is just reading the file name. Kovid can confirm if this is the case.

That is the case, the point is that either the metadata is not being written to the pdf or the kindle is not reading metadata from the pdf. In either case the culprit is most likely the pdf.
