Two good deals...which to buy?

I'm paralyzed with indecision!

Today (5/23) Woot has the 2nd gen. Kindle 3g on sale for 89.99 (+ $5 shipping).

But Daily Steals has the Nook 3g/Wifi (factory recertified) for $85 (+5 shipping).

I've been agonizing over these for days, and now here are two opportunities under $100!

(And I'm still thinking the KSO sounds good too, for just a bit more at $114.) I've harassed my husband with my indecision, and he says just decide. But I can't.

Thoughts? Help nudge me out of my indecision.

Well I prefer Kindle over the Nook so I would say get one of the Kindles. And if you're choosing between the K2 and KSO I would say go with the KSO.

I really don't think that's a particularly good deal for a K2. It's worth paying the extra for the K3, IMHO.

Well which is more important to you, being able to handle a large electronic book collection or having touch screen capability? Large book collection buy the Kindle, if you watn the touch screen buy the Nook.

The Nook is not a true touchscreen. It is a touchstrip.

I would get a K3, it is worth the extra money.

Some people do prefer the K2 design over the K3, plus it has free 3G which would be considerably more money to get in a new K3.

I personally find no value to the color touch strip on the Nook. It just sucks battery life.

Plus the 3G on the Kindle can be used for basic web browsing...google, wikipedia, checking web-based email and news, etc, so if the choice is between these two, I'd go with the Kindle.

But, if you say the wifi-only KSO is another possibility, then apparently 3G isn't that important to you. If you include the value of the special offers, a new KSO can net out to be cheaper than either of these refurbs,

Of course, I guess the biggest differentiation between the two refurbs, if you intend to use the devices only as B&N or Amazon intended, is: Where do you prefer to shop for ebooks? B&N or Amazon?

I'd go with the KSO. Far better screen than either of the other two, better battery life, and when you factor in the special offers, probably cheaper. Of course, that presumes that WiFi is sufficient for you.

I had a K2, now have a K3. Loved my K2. But the screen is definitely better on the K3. Worth it for that alone.

between the 2nd gen Kindle and the Nook classic. The nook by a new york mile. Personally I would take the nook over any Kindle including the kindle 3, but that's just me. The reason's i would are

1. Design- I'm sorry the kindles are butt ugly, the K3 not as bad as the first two generations, but still looks like an outdated calculator from the 1990's.

2. Support for ePub - if you like shopping around Nook supports ePub, so you aren't tied into shopping only from Barnes and Noble. I shop alot at Kobo Books, sign up via email and they send you tons, I mean tons of coupons to your inbox. And since I'm on the Android platform it's nice to be able to merge my Google Books with my nook library as well. Library lending ( kindle is getting that but I don't know if a date has been set) but as of right now only ePub readers can lend library books.
You can do all this without having to go through and convert the formats etc. Just a simple drag and drop without any extra steps.

3. the MoreInStore feature with the nooks. If you have a Barnes and Noble near by, you can take advantage of some fun features. 1. Instore nook only coupons 2. special offers on nook books, 3. Usually some freebie from the Starbucks Cafe 4. read any book up to an hour each day.

4. In store support, something seems odd, or don't understand or need some tutoring, you can just swing by and go to the nook area

5. Bar none the best accessories.
6. Replacable battery and expandable memory.
7. Nook had an update not too long ago and the screen is on par or at least can hold it's own with the pearl screen of the K3. the Nook classic screen is wonderful.

8. And of course the second LCD screen. I enjoy navigating using the touchscreen, just a more modern feel to it, and plus I enjoy seen my book cover art in color. It's a nice touch.

So these are the reason I personally like the nook over the kindles. I love Amazon in general but just not digging their kindles. Love what Barnes and Noble has done with the nook,

Both offer IMHO the two best bookstore platform for their respective devices.
Also you might at least see what Barnes and noble announces tomorrow for it's new nook as well.

good luck.

I agree with this. For me, being locked into having to buy from Amazon is a deal breaker. Not that I wouldn't buy from Amazon but I like to have options. Not only that but after having a Nook and fiddling with a kindle, the Nook is a better design.

Yeah, I'm not so sure that is a real deal for a K2, but we all know 'being locked into Amazon' is moot.

Moot in what way? I'm sure there are ways around it but I prefer not to be hassled any more than needed. Perhaps if the Kindle had some great features the Nook didn't it would make sense but generally speaking the Nook's features are better than the Kindle.

You answered your own question. I find it next to no hassle, so Amazon is just fine as far as I'm concerned.

No hassle at all. In fact, with multiple readers in the house, it's easier for me to 'workaround' the same way for all of them then to use the out-of-the-box solution for each.
"Locked in to Amazon" is totally untrue. At best, it's hyperbole for "Can't directly buy DRMed ebooks from B&N or KOBO and one or two other places."

You mean like longer battery life? Oh, wait, that's Kindle. You must mean free 3G web browsing? Oh, wait, that's Kindle, too.
Oh, how about ability to send yourself personal documents wirelessly...wait, Kindle has that too....

"Better features" depends totally on what features are important to you.

No need to get snarky.

Obviously, there is a lot of personal preference here.

My point is that using other stores is easier with the Nook, has better looks, seems better built to me, has some added in-store content, and runs a better OS.

Again, opinions will differ but overall I think the Nook is the better option unless you don't mine jumping though hoops to use other stores. Either way both are great eReaders and you can't go wrong with either of them.
