Sideloading wont show up, and deleting problems. i cant take it anymore!
Hey Guys,
my nook is driving me crazy. let me try to go through things in detail. ![]() ![]() ![]() my nook is a classic with the version 1.5 installed. i do not have a micro SD card plugged in. i have less than 50 books on my nook. im on windows ultimate. experience: 1. i have been sideloading via calibre.various books into my nook classic with various limited forms of success. 2. books take forever to show up if at all. yes i have clicked on the check for new content button millions of times and it does not work. yes im aware it should be in the my books folder/personal folder. 3. new books are already on the nook but not being recognized- i verified this by going to my documents using my computer. 4. i have tried the soft reset, the remove the battery trick and even the hold down the power button 6 times bit and wait for the sky blue words to come out and say its rebooting and stuff. 5. surprisingly even after all of this my nook still has all its old wallpaper and the books that i have downloaded before. 6. the only time they did show up was when i deleted all my books via calibre and reuploaded the ones i wanted. 7. worse still the books that i still deleted which i dont want are still in the directory!! 8. i have tried deleting via calibre and via the nook itself but the book is still on the directory. when i open the books which are not there i get an error opening the book (obviously). im fresh out of ideas guys. ![]() 1. figure out how to make the books i sideloaded show up. 2. delete the names from the directory of the books i already deleted. barring that, how do i nuke this @$%!$% nook and start from scratch? btw when i try to unregister the warning notice said that books and files will remain on the nook so i didnt bother doing that. |

I have a Classic Nook at 1.5 with about as many books as you have, but I have not had the problems you are describing. Occasionally it doesn't recognize a sideloaded book right away, but usually after just turning it off normally (sleep) and coming back, the book will show up.
However, one thing I do differently is that I seldom use Calibre to send my books over. I usually just use WIndows Explorer and copy the individual epub file from the Calibre library directory. What this does differently is that instead of getting the subdirectory from Calibre, with the epub file, the metadata file, and the cover, all you have on the Nook is the individual epub file. (You do NOT need the other files - you even see the cover image with just the epub file because it contains the cover and the Nook will display it). You might try doing that. I have NOT had problems sending books over using Calibre and having the whole subdir thing, but since you are having problems you might try the individual epub method and see if that helps. |

Sounds like perhaps one of the books you sideloaded is corrupt. This causes all kind of weird problems because the Nook cannot index the books correctly.
Can you open all of the sideloaded books correctly on your PC using ADE? Perhaps that way you can find out which book is corrupt. Otherwise I think the best solution is to delete all sideloaded books end search for new content so the Nook can index correctly and your My Documents view is empty. Than put the books back one by one, or in batches, to find out which book causes the problem. |

I think that geertm's suggestion is excellent - better than mine as a likely solution, and certainly the best first thing to try.

wow after a few months of putting up with this cr*p on my nook its finally clean! thanks guys. i was about to order a new one already and give up on this thing. good theory geertm probably a corrupt file was stopping the device from reading the other files altogether whenever it would refresh.

I am having the same problem. I tried following geertm's suggestion to delete all my sideloaded books and run check for new content. I first removed all book folders from my documents folder. The list of titles and shelves remained but nothing would open, of course. I put the folders back and tried to delete one by one using Item details and options, but got a message that the items could not be deleted. Any suggestions?
