This may be all over MR, but at the bottom of the screen -

"Digital Rights Information

Open EPUB eBook
Copy: allowed with no limitations
Print: allowed with no limitations"

You can even do a search for "Open EPUB eBook" (111 so far and 8 "Open EPUB PDF"s).

In this case the book is 47 Echo by Shawn Kupfer.

This is the first time that I've seen this in an ebook listing on the Free Library of Philadelphia's web site.

These are showing up at a few libraries.....

I also noticee, when checking to see how to update my FLP card, that the fee has risen to $35. I will pay it, but I wonder if this will significantly reduce the subscribers to that library.

I'll be letting my existing sub run out then won't renew. Our library in New Zealand is using Overdrive now and I'm using FLP less and less. The queues in NZ are MUCH shorter

Since we are talking about library loaned ebooks, what difference does it make whether an ebook is Open ePub? Aren't you still time limited? Can you download and permanently keep a copy of the ebook?

Presumably, an Open Epub book can be read on devices and with program that DO read epub but DON'T support Adobe DRM. There are still a few out there - even Aldiko the Android reading app only recently managed to add Adobe DRM.

Beyond device limitations, not everyone likes having ADE on their computer to manage their library books, and the limited number of ADE licenses and the difficulty with de-registering a device makes the whole thing a nightmare in the long term.

That's my (limited) understanding, anyway.
