SONY Reader Date Issue

Has anyone else had this problem or knew about this issue:

If I don't connect my Reader to my PC USB port for about 3-4 days then the Reader date goes back to sometime in 2006.

If I save a bookmark right after sync with PC through USB, I have the correct date for the bookmark, however a few days later, any new bookmark gets back to sometime in 2006.

Any idea or information?

Thanks,

Yeah, it's a known bug -- the Reader doesn't really have it's own clock, apparently, but rather pulls the info from the PC. It can keep track of it on its own for a few days, but then it falls back to '06. It seemed to get better after the first firmware update, but I've noticed it seems to happen more quickly since the second one.

I mostly ignore it.

Thanks for the inside. I understand, however I read multiple books at the same time, loosing the order of the bookmarks or the correct date is driving me crazy.

SONY should provide a firmware upgrade to fix this issue, or recall this product for hardware fix. Date keeping is obviously not working which is suppose to support the bookmark feature, therefore this is a defect on the firmware or hardware.

It does keep them in order, of a sort. If you reset all your bookmarks after the date goes wonky, it'll display them in the order they're set, newest to oldest. Just with the wrong date. I agree it's an annoyance.

Actually it is not very accurate. After the reset, it starts counting the days again (although incorrect), however 2-3 days later, it looses even those incorrect dates and jumps back to some other date in the past then begin counting again, then 2-3 days later again it jumps back to another day in the past.

If I don't sync my reader for a month, then all my bookmarks are scrambled!!! trying to find what I left when is impossible to tell!!!!

It's probably done with a software counter which "wraps around" back to zero after a few days.

I'm not sure I follow you. If you display the bookmarks for any given book, you get a list of them in page order. Is that not sufficient? That's all I've ever used, I must confess. What's the benefit of seeing your bookmarks in date order?

He's looking at the "All Bookmarks" view, HarryT. I use it myself, pretty much exclusively -- it's extremely handy when you switch books a lot.

I noticed the same thing after the first Sony firmware update. After the second Sony firmware upgrade, I haven't had a problem with it (it's possible I just didn't notice, but since I use that view all the time, I think I would have noticed).

So what I'd suggest is getting the latest firmware.

Thanks, Nat; I've never used that view, I must admit.

I prefer the "All Bookmarks" because, first of all not only I can see all the bookmarks with date order but also you can reach there by pressing and holding down the "MARK" button. When the date of the bookmarks are all over the place, it makes it very difficult to find what you are looking for especially if you have more than one page of "All Bookmarks". The bookmark you just placed may very well be at the end all the very last page as the oldest :-(
