Calibre not recognized when I try to open from Appliacations on Mac Pro

I downloaded Calibre, put it into Applications, but when I try to open it from Applications it doesn't open, message says "not recognized" -- thank you for help if you know what I did wrong and/or need to do

Did you open the downloaded dmg file, then drag the calibre app to the Applications folder icon?

Yes, that is what I did -- I tried dragging it into the Applications folder a second time, both are in the folder but won't open -- same message that they are not recognized
