Option to overwrite comments on import?

I'm a bit of a stickler for having covers for my books which means I'm often importing and re-importing metadata for the same book as I try to find a good cover.
I've realized that every time I re-import metadata I'm downloading additional summary information that I then have to manually clean out. I love the fact that I can import summary info and covers from different sources for the same book but I was wondering if there is some function that I can set so that I can choose to overwrite summary info rather than adding to it.

I'm confused when downloading covers, why are you re-downloading non cover metadata? Download just the covers. And note that calibre 0.8 allows you to chose between covers from different sources in a single download.

You might also find that a faster, less crapshoot approach to finding quality covers is to use the Search the Internet plugin to search google images. That way you can preview from a whole bunch of sites (not just the few that there are metadata download plugins for) and have more choice of sizes etc. In fact one of the additions I customised on my STI menu is an advanced google search which searches for covers above a certain size, that cuts down the noise even further.

Once you see a cover you like, just drag/drop it onto the book details pane or edit metadata window, you can see the tooltip for the existing image to compare sizes etc.

Much faster than repeatedly calling download covers with different plugins enabled/disabled and guaranteed to get much more choice.

Hi Kovid,

If I push the download cover button, I automatically just get the same cover (I think it's whatever the first choice on the list would be for the book title.) Often, that's not the cover I want, so I end up going into 'fetch metadata' again so I can grab a cover from a different list entry.

Are you saying that the behavior will be different in calibre 0.8?

I know I'm abusing calibre to a certain extent - a purist would want the exact cover that goes with the exact isbn of their book, but sometimes people post really crappy snapshots of raggedy paperbacks as 'the cover' associated with a title and I love that the program is flexible enough to allow me to change these.

There are so many great additions to calibre that I can't ever seem to catch up!

Perhaps the op is using the bulk download of covers only. this function and download metadata only, appear to download both in 7.xx releases.
