Hi everyone,
This is my first post, just trying to figure out my way here, if anyone has any suggestions of things you quickly learned as a newbie, please let me know. Any help is appreciated.

Well, I will give you some pointers:

1) First ask this same question in the apple sub-forum there are a bunch of people over there that know a lot more about apple devices then most of us do;
2) Second, not trying to disparage your ipad but ipad owners have told me that its sort of ackward as a reader and rather expensive to be used as that on a regualr basis;
3) Third, look at the formats that your device can read and when you go shopping for books make sure that you limit your search to electronic stores that sell one of those formats;
4) Fourth, Amazon is out for you, they will not sell open standard books;
5) I would also recommend looking for an apple forum on the information superhighway, people at that sort of forum will be better equipped to handle the ins and outs of an ipad, the dominant devices here tend to be: Kindle, Nook Color and Sony PRS; I personally have two - a Libra Pro and a Blackberry Storm and I have no experience with apple and their products.

Thank you for the kind welcome

Thank you for the welcome posts ImogenRose, neilmarr, and Geoffc and thank you jbcohen for the tips regarding the use of my ipad for this forum. I am considering getting a kindle since my ipad sucks so much battery when I use it to read books.

Is battery life really worth the $114? So what if you have to recharge it now and then. Only you can answer this question. I have been told Kobo sells someplaces for $60. I might be more willing to pay $60 for that conveniece then $114.

Can your ipad handle Kindle files? Don't know the answer. Might be worth looking into unles you want a balkanized electronic reading experience, a constant back and forth between the kindle and the ipad. Would be nice for the two readers to take boks from the same source so you can decide each day which one you want to read on.
